Hawks pick up 2011 commit
Thursday, 02 July 2009

ImageStar News Online: UNCW will have at least six scholarships to fill in the recruiting class of 2011. The Seahawks got an early start late Wednesday night when they picked up a verbal commitment from Terrence Williams, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard out of Charlotte.

Williams averaged 16 points per game last season as a sophomore at West Mecklenburg High. He was selected to play in the Charlotte All-Star Classic and invited to Dave Telep's Carolina Challenge, the annual event that showcases the top 100 underclassmen in the state.

He plays for the Carolina Elite AAU team. Chris Hardy has coached Williams since he was nine years old and thinks now that he doesn't have to worry about recruiting he could blossom into one of the top players in a loaded class in N.C.

"He's a late bloomer who's making a transition from being a low post player to becoming a wing," Hardy said. "He's made a 360 in one year. Right now he's a decent shooter, more of a streaky shooter who runs the floor like a deer. He's a good on-ball defender and rebounder."

Seven-footer from Denmark to play hoops at ODU
Wednesday, 01 July 2009

ImageVirginian-Pilot: Old Dominion's basketball team picked up another big man and added more international flavor to its roster after getting a commitment from Anton Larsen, a 7-foot, 235-pound incoming freshman from Copenhagen, Denmark.

Larsen visited last week and decided he didn't need to go anywhere else, he said Tuesday.

"Basketball is small in Denmark. It's been my dream for a long time to play in the States," he said. "I was talking to some other schools, but after the trip I was sure I wanted to go to ODU."

Southern Illinois and Florida International also were recruiting Larsen, who will turn 21 in August and is a member of the Danish national team. Larsen played pickup games with current ODU players and was impressed with his future teammates.

"The way they played basketball was way different than in Denmark," he said. "Much quicker, must faster."

This is extremely delayed but here is part 4 of our extended coverage from the Southern Invitational.

Petersburg Elite White

Justin Coleman (2010, 6-6 SF)
Southern Invitational was somewhat of a coming out party for Justin.  He was flying a little under the radar before Southern, but with the show he put on he really raised his profile.  Justin is an incredible athlete who can absolutely jump out of the gym.  He had a number of draw dropping dunks, including a high flying alley-oop and a double pump dunk to avoid an attempted block.  Justin also used his leaping ability to go up high and grab rebounds, as well as block shots on the defensive end of the court.  Besides his athleticism, what else really stood out about him was his ability to shoot the ball.  Justin can shoot on the move or off balance and has excellent elevation to shoot right over defenders.  He also shoots with high arc and has excellent range.  Most of his shots were actually from behind the arc, but he also showed a pull up mid range game.  Where Justin could improve is with his decision making.  When playing Boo Williams he forced too many difficult shots, although he was able to convert on some of them.  He also made a couple bad passes that resulted in turnovers.  Overall though a very impressive performance for Justin at Southern.

Grayson signs with Virginia Commonwealth
Monday, 29 June 2009

ImageRICHMOND, Va. – In his first press conference, Virginia Commonwealth University Head Coach Shaka Smart talked about how he wanted to wreak havoc on the Rams’ opponents this season.

Three key parts of wreaking havoc are speed, quickness and athleticism.

Those three attributes are what many opposing coaches used to describe Issiah Grayson, the Rams’ latest and final addition for the upcoming 2009-2010 men’s basketball season.

“We’re very pleased about the opportunity to add Issiah to our program,” Smart commented. “His potential is tremendous, and he possesses elite speed and quickness, two attributes we really value.”

Grayson signed scholarship papers to join the Black & Gold after an outstanding high school which concluded at Findlay College Prep in Henderson, Nev.
