Coach Kevin Willard and his Iona Gaels have received their second commitment for the 2010-11 season.

Back in November they picked up forward David Laury out of New Jersey, who had previously signed with Western Kentucky.  For their second commitment they traveled a little further south to pick up another forward.

They received a verbal from Darius Leonard out of the Kestrel Heights School in Durham, North Carolina.

We contacted Darius to ask him a couple questions about his commitment.

Gavin leaves VCU basketball team
Saturday, 06 February 2010

ImageRichmond Times-Dispatch: Sophomore guard Jay Gavin has left Virginia Commonwealth's basketball team for what the school said was personal reasons.

"Jay has made the decision that it is in his best interest to leave our team," VCU coach Shaka Smart said in a release. "As a coaching staff, we appreciate Jay's efforts and contributions during his time as a Ram. We wish him nothing but the best for his future."

Gavin, a transfer from Marist, started VCU's first seven games. He had 20 points in a victory over then-No. 17 Oklahoma.

But his playing time has decreased as the season has progressed, and he has not been on the floor in four of the past six games. In the two games Gavin did play, Gavin had 14 points in 10 minutes in a blowout win over Towson, then got in for the final minute of Wednesday's 73-60 victory over UNC Wilmington.

Prep guard Tre Bowman is a player who's stock appears to be on the rise, as he continues to increase his interest and offer count.

The last time we saw Tre was at the National Prep Showcase.  He was not at his best at this event, but from all accounts he has been excelling since then.

In the past Tre has impressed us with his scoring prowess, as well as his ability to attack off the dribble and finish around the hoop.  He also showed that when left open he could knock down shots from out beyond the arc.

According to our latest update, it appears that a number of new schools have been impressed with his play as well.

Blue Hen Forwards McNeil & Brinkley Lost For Season Due To Injury
Thursday, 04 February 2010

Blue Hens: University of Delaware men’s basketball forwards Kelvin McNeil and Josh Brinkley will miss the remainder of the 2009-10 season due to injuries, Blue Hen head coach Monté Ross announced Thursday.

McNeil, a redshirt freshman from Newport News, Va., has missed the last three games with a right knee injury and will undergo arthroscopic surgery on Wednesday, February 10. Brinkley will be sidelined the rest of the year with a stress fracture in his left foot.

McNeil, who appeared in the first 20 games of the season while starting 18, is the Blue Hens’ leading rebounder with 6.2 boards per game. He currently ranks eighth in the Colonial Athletic Association in rebounding and 10th in defensive rebounding. McNeil, who scored 6.0 points per contest, reached double figures in four games on the year. He posted double-doubles against Old Dominion and Vermont, and he recorded season-highs of 13 points and 13 boards in the Blue Hens’ road win over the Catamounts on December 20.

Last week Monmouth picked up a commitment from point guard Jordan Davis out of Sickles High School in Tampa Florida. This is Monmouth’s first commitment in their 2010 recruiting class.

We had the opportunity to see Jordan in action, back in July of 2008 at the Reebok Summer Championships, playing with the Florida Elite AAU quad.

At that event Jordan proved to be a quick ball handler, who was able to change direction with ease.  He was able to drive with both his right and left hand, and finish once he got to the rim.  Although he was playing off the ball at the time, Jordan still managed to make a number of quality passes.  He did not however show much in terms of an outside shooting game, as he mostly stuck to attacking the hoop.

Recently we caught up with Jordan to find out a little more about his commitment to Monmouth.
