Former Tide hoopster Demetrius Jemison to transfer to Manhattan College
Sunday, 25 July 2010

ImageAlabama Live: Transferring Alabama senior forward Demetrius Jemison plans to spend his final season of eligibility at Manhattan College in New York.

"I'm definitely excited," Jemison said. "The chance to be in the big city definitely played a big role in it."

Jemison, a Birmingham native, said he made the decision this past week, choosing Manhattan over possible destinations like Western Kentucky, Western Michigan and Georgia State. The former Huffman High standout also had interest from UCLA.

He plans to enroll in graduate school in late August and will be eligible to participate immediately, per NCAA guidelines that allow an athlete to transfer and not have to sit out a year if the graduate program is not offered at the current institution.

Winslow Township guard Shawn Valentine chooses Rider over Rutgers
Tuesday, 20 July 2010

ImageTrentonian: Shawn Valentine recieved scholarship offers from a list of schools that included Rutgers, Temple, La Salle and St. Bonaventure -- all teams with higher profiles than Rider.

But Valentine, a 6-foot-7 combo guard from Winslow Twp, spurned those other offers Monday and chose Rider, a move that gives the Broncs an early recruiting victory for the 2011-12 season.

Valentine, a rising senior, averaged 17 points, five rebounds and four assists last year for Winslow Twp. Though he's played a large percentage of high school minutes at point guard, he figures to be a wing for Rider, which will also add Virginia transfer Jeff Jones in 2011-12.

Reached by phone Monday, Valentine said he narrowed his choices to Rider and Rutgers, chosing to stay in his home state and, he said, to play for a coaching staff with which he felt comfortable.

“Yes, he verbally committed to Iona,” said Bingo Coles, Glover’s mentor. “It is a great situation for him. It’s close to home. I think he’ll do well in that division and actually get it together.”

Glover, a Bronx native, has two years of eligibility remaining.

Xavier and Howard were also involved.

The 6-foot-6, 210-pound Glover initially committed to St. Francis (NY) but changed his mind after head coach Brian Nash resigned in April.

Earlier today Xavier Brown informed Recruit Recon that he has decided to de-commit from St. Peter's.

Xavier was the recipient of the prestigious Gates Millennium Scholarship which provides him with a full ride to any school that he is accepted to for four years undergrad, four years graduate, and doctoral school, so he would not have been on athletic scholarship.

Here is what Xavier had to say about why he decided not to attend St. Peter's.
