St. Thomas More (63) – Blair (55)

Blair

Patrick Hazel (2007, 6-8 PF) Committed to Marquette
Found himself in foul trouble early in the game so his minutes were limited.  His offensive game needs some work.  He did not establish position well in the post in this game and had a hard time getting passes in the post.  He did do a good job on the glass and got some points off put backs.

ImageAlexis Wangmene
(2007, 6-8 PF) Committed to Texas
Alexis is a very strong post player and is excellent on the glass.  He put the ball up strong almost every time he touched the ball, either scoring or drawing fouls.  When he did get to the foul line he showed a soft touch and converted most of his free throws.  Receiving constant double teams he still managed to score 28 points and grab 12 rebounds.  Alexis is also a force on defense as he blocked and altered many shots.  He attempted to drive to the basket on one play from outside of the three point line but he lost his dribble.  He did not look comfortable that far from the hoop.

Julius Coles (2007, 6-3 PG/SG)
This quick, long armed combo guard did a number of good things in this game.  Running the point, he showed pretty good court vision.  His best passes came on fast breaks, helping his teammates get easy buckets.  Julius did not show much of an outside game during this game, preferring more to attack the basket.  He has the ability to beat his man off the dribble using a variety of moves; his most effective move was his crossover.  When he got to the free throw line he shot with a high arc and converted most of his attempts.

Ameer Brown (2009, 6-2 SG)
Brown showed good form knocking down a couple threes in this game.

St. Thomas More

Aaron Hall (2007, 6-3 SG)
Aaron showed off his athleticism on a fast break throwing down a one handed slam.  He is a good leaper and finished well in transition.

Jamarkus Holt (2007, 6-8 PF)
Played tough in the middle but was a little overmatched by Alexis Wangmene.  He did however block a couple shots and held his own on the glass.

Steven Brown (2007, 6-6 SF)
Steven was MVP of this game, leading his team with 15 points.  He showed soft touch on his jump shot, which he extended beyond the three point line.  His free throw shooting was also very good.

Marquis Jones
(2007, 6-1 PG)
Marquis is a crafty point guard, with good court vision.  He is not amazingly quick but still manages to drive by his defender.  He distributed the ball much more than he looked to score.

The Hun School (50) – Champlain St. Lambert (37)

The Hun School

Idris Hilliard (2007, 6-7 SF/PF) Committed to St. Joe's
Hilliard aggressively attacked the basket in this game.  He dunked on a defender on the first play of the game.  He was a presence in the lane on both sides of the ball.  Idris finished well on the offensive side of the ball and blocked shots on defense.  His teammates did not seem to get the ball to him enough, but it did not matter in this game.

Doug Davis (2008, 5-11 PG)
Doug showed excellent court vision and did get Idris Hilliard a couple easy baskets.  He seemed to be the only one getting Idris the ball.  Doug uses his quickness and dribbling ability to break down the defense.  He is very unselfish and looks for open teammates but can definitely score himself.  He finished well around the hoop and showed that he could hit a running floater.  He also knocked down a couple open three-point shots.  He finished the game with 14 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists earning the games MVP award.

Will Martell (2007, 7-0 C)
Will is fairly slow and is not very athletic but you can not teach height.  At 7’-0” he can block shots without jumping and also grabs a lot of rebounds.  He does a good job of keeping the ball high, when he catches it in the post, then turning and shooting.  For a kid his size he does handle the ball pretty well, although you would not want him taking the ball up the court.  His lateral foot speed is a problem on defense, as he has trouble keeping up with quicker forwards.

Lance Goulbourne (2008, 6-7 SF/PF)
When you first see lance, his game appears a bit awkward, but as you watch him play you realize that he has some skills.  He can knock down threes and he finishes well inside.  Lance can also shoot off the dribble and he runs the court very well.  He is also surprisingly athletic and threw down a monster two handed slam in this game.

ImageChamplain St. Lambert

Valeriu Lazarescu (2007, 6-5 SG/SF) Committed to William & Mary
Lazarescu has a lot of potential.  He is very athletic and is confident in his jump shot.  He has three-point range and can shoot over defenders, but at this point he does not really create his own shot.  When he drives he basically just lowers his head and drives as fast as he can with his right hand.  Valeriu’s biggest flaw is his decision making.  He often finds himself on the bench because he makes an ill-advised pass or travels.  He needs to become a smarter more versatile player but that can come with good coaching.

Etoile Imama (2007, 6-4 PG) Committed to Old Dominion
ImageIt is hard to get a read on Imama because he does not look to score very often.  I am not sure if this is the design of the offense or a lack of aggressiveness on his part.  He only had 3 points in this game on 1 of 3 shooting from beyond the arc and did not penetrate at all.  He does handle the ball extremely well and rarely turns the ball over.  He runs through the offense patiently and does not make many mistakes, but does not take many chances.  Imama does have trouble on defense staying in front of quicker guards.  Doug Davis drove by him a couple times before he switched to a different man.  Imama looks to have the tools to be a good point guard but he seems to lack the killer instinct.  When his team was down about 10 in the fourth quarter he did not look to score even once.  Curiously the entire team seemed to have a lack of urgency when the game was on the line.

Ibrahim Appiah (2007, 6-4 SG) Committed to High Point
Ibrahim is Champlain St. Lamberts most aggressive offensive player.  He can shoot it from the outside or take it inside and hit a jumper off the dribble.  He shoots with high arc and is very confident.   However, his shot selection is poor, he fired up a number of ill advised shots.  Ibrahim is an athletic player but has a very thin frame, he will need to get stronger.  When Valeriu Lazarescu was on the bench it seemed as if Ibrahim was the only one shooting.

Newark East Side (50) – St. Dominic’s (35)

Newark East Side

Corey Chandler (2007, 6-2 PG/SG) Committed to Rutgers
Chandler was named the games MVP, leading all scorers with 26 points.  Corey is a very versatile player, he can shoot the three ball or he can break down the defense and find open teammates for easy scores.  He is very confident and will shoot off the dribble and from NBA three point range.  Corey at times in this game settled too much for shooting three point shots, when he could have drove to the basket any time he wanted to.

St. Dominic’s

Roland Davis (2007, 6-1 PG) Committed to College of Charleston
Davis has committed to the College of Charleston, but did not play in this game due to a knee injury.  I think he is out for the season, and St Dominic’s missed his presence.

T.J. Carey (2007, 6-3 SG) Committed to Harvard
With Roland out T.J. Carey often times played the role of the point guard and brought the ball up.  While he did not turn the ball over, he was obviously playing out of position.  Carey is a smart player who can really shoot the three.  He makes smart passes but is not going to wow anybody in that area.  He also handles the ball well but he is too slow to drive by his man.  He does have a big body but did not play very physical game.

Markeys Dean (2007, 6-5 SF/PF)
Markeys is an undersized post player with good hands and above average athleticism.  He plays strong and is excellent on the boards.  Markeys can dunk with ease and did so more than once in this game.  He tends to put a lot of velocity on his passes, which are sometimes too fast for his teammates.  On the defensive side of the ball he is very active and deflected a decent amount of shots in this game.
