Omari Lawrence
The Playaz Spring Fling took at Seton Hall University this past weekend.  Team from New England to New York to DC took part in the competition.  Here’s a look at some of the top performances.

Metro Hawks

Zack Rosen (2008, 5-11 165 PG)
Zack played an excellent game.  He’s such an ideal point guard.  He has very good vision and distributed several nice passes on this evening.  On one of his better passes, he looked like he was about to pull up for the jumper and instead dished it off for a lay up.  Zack was also feeling it from the outside as he buried several threes.  He is a very fundamentally sound ball handler who can get into the lane as well.  Zack also plays hard and can often be found going after loose balls.  He finished the game with 15 points and several assists.

Samardo Samuels (2008, 6-8 240 PF/C)
Samardo opened the game by burying a three pointer.  He was dominant in the low post against Henry Sims, including a beautiful spin move that he worked into a jam.  He finished with 19 points.

Des Wade (2008, 5-10 PG)
Des didn’t play his best on this evening.  With all of the talented players surrounding him, he didn’t need to score, but instead pass.  His passing in this contest was sloppy though as he turned the ball over several times.

Sylvan Landesberg (2008, 6-5 SF)
Sylvan is a super talented wing player.  He is so good at getting into the lane where he creates problems with his quickness and length.  He is very shifty in traffic and an excellent finisher.  Sylvan did most of his damage off the dribble and in transition in this contest.

Unique All Stars

Henry Sims (2008, 6-10 220 PF)
Henry is a long, athletic big man.  He has a solid post up game, but doesn’t dominate inside.  Henry seemed to have some trouble dealing with Samardo’s size when he tried to score on the offensive end.

Tobias Harris (2010, 6-5 SG/SF)
Tobias had a nice pull up 17 foot jumper.  He struggled to find his jumper for the most part on this evening, but has a very good stroke.  His size is very impressive for a wing player.  He does need to work on getting himself into the lane more.  If he can combine his ability to shoot with the ability to drive to the hoop, he’ll be very tough to stop (especially with his size).

DC Assault 16s

Daryl Traynham (2010, 5-9 PG)
Daryl does just about everything you could ask for in a point guard.  He is lightning quick off the dribble and can do a number of things with the ball in his hands.  He has terrific vision and made some beautiful passes on this evening.  Daryl is a very good scorer as well.  He has a fluid shot which he can pull up and hit off the dribble or shoot deep from behind the arc.  He is a small guard, but doesn’t let his height hurt him on the offensive end.  He used a very nice high arching shot in the lane on one occasion.  If anything at all will keep him from being a super prospect, it’ll be his small stature.  He can do so many things though that even that might not hold his game back if he doesn’t grow.

Rodney McGruder (2009, 6-5 SG/SF)
Rodney is a long forward who can really elevate.  He displayed a nice pull up jumper in this game as well.

Wallace Judge (2009, 6-7 SF)
Wallace is a fantastic young prospect.  He appears to have grown since I last saw him.  He is very long and athletic, but also possesses true wing skills.  He can put the ball on the floor and has a smooth stroke.  He hit a nice pull up 10 foot jumper in this contest.  Wallace was also very good on the boards in this contest.

Javorn Farrell (2009, 6-4 SG)
Javorn is another good size, athletic wing player.  He showed his range early on by burying a three pointer.  He has a smooth stroke and a very well developed mid range game already.  He also hit a nice runner in the lane.

Team Kobe 16s

Nurideen Lindsey (2009, 6-2 PG)
Nurideen did his usual good job of finishing around the basket.  He did a lot of damage with in transition.  He played under control and didn’t force shots.

Khalif Wyatt (2009, 6-2 200 PG)
Khalif was on fire from three in the contest.  He has a smooth stroke and can score.  He just needs to be able to other things.

Triple Threat

Garvey Young (2008, 6-2 SG)
Garvey is a long armed, athletic shooting guard.  The lefty has a solid handle and a good stroke on his jumper.  He struggled some to find his shot and thus didn’t really put up numbers in this game.

Jason Clark (2008, 6-2 SG)
Jason is an athletic guard who is explosive off the dribble and can get to the hoop in a hurry.  He can step outside and knock down the three with his sweet touch.  He can also post up some and blocked a shot as well.  He didn’t have a monster first game (seemed somewhat passive), but he did look more dominant in the brief period of the second game that I watched.

Brad Bald (2008, 6-7 SF/PF)
Brad is an inside/outside forward.  He can play with his back to the basket or on the wing.  He’s crafty in the post with the ball in his hands and has good touch.  He didn’t have a huge game, but did show his versatility.

Kevon Moore (2008, 6-2 185 PG/SG)
The left-handed Moore has a smooth game.  He has a very good stroke and can put it on the floor and get into the lane.  He struggled some to find his shot and scored mostly in transition.

CJ Gardner (2008, 5-10 PG)
CJ is an undersized, but very quick point guard.  He has a crossover move that freezes defenders.  While he has a good handle, he does seem like he’s carrying the ball a lot (he was called for it once).  CJ looks to pass first, but he can use his long arms to score in the lane as well.

Maurice Creek (2009, 6-2 SG)
Maurice is an athletic shooting guard.  In this game he had a nice lay up in traffic and stepped outside and knocked down a three.  He also showed his athletic ability by blocking a shot.

Long Island Lightning

Omari Lawrence (2009, 6-3 SG/SF)
Omari is just so smooth with the ball in his hands.  He is very crafty in the lane and combined with his length it makes for an excellent finisher.  He is a shooting guard or small forward, but is even a good enough ball handler to play the point guard position.

Jeriel Henriquez (2008, 6-2 SG)
Jeriel is a shooting guard and he does like to shoot.  He hit a deep jumper off a very quick crossover move.  He knocked down a couple of other perimeter shots, but wasn’t able to knock down jumpers consistently.  He also forced tough shots on several occasions.

Ivy Fisher (2008, 5-7 PG)
Ivy is a small point guard who can handle the rock.  He has a good crossover and displayed a beautiful spin move.  He can break defenders down off the dribble and looks to pass first.  Ivy was a bit erratic in the first game and turned the ball over quite often.  In the second game he played much more under control and distributed the ball very well.  He also showed a decent ability to finish around taller defenders.

Jordan Henriquez (2008, 6-9 PF/C)
Jordan had a few block shots and did a decent job rebounding.  I was hoping to see more from him as I really liked the potential of his low post game last year.  Jordan didn’t get many touches on the offensive end though.
