Sammy Givens
On Saturday, one hundred of the top players in the Philadelphia area took part in the Reebok Headliner Tryout Camp. The players were hoping to make it into one of Reebok’s summer camps, including the elite Reebok U Camp. Here is a look at some of the players. CAA Insider focused mainly on covering players that we haven’t covered before.

Sammy Givens (2008, 6-5 SG/SF)
Sammy is certainly far from a new name. He is among the best players at the camp though and he showed why on Saturday. He has such a well rounded game that he really shines in this event. Sammy is an excellent rebounder for a player of his size. He has superb hands and loves to snatch rebounds and push the ball up the court. Sammy often creates easy baskets for himself or his teammates by playing in this fashion. He’s a crafty ball handler with a good feel for the game. He always seems to know where to position himself on the court, whether it be for a rebound or in an attempt to score.  Sammy can also post up as he showed with a nice back to the basket hook shot. He’s also a good defensive player. The only thing that’s really lacking right now from him is a consistent jumper. He does have pretty good form though and it appears to be more of an issue of repetition than anything.

Miquel Bocachica (2008, 6-5 SF)
When this sharpshooter is on, it’s entertaining to watch. He was unconscious early from behind the stripe as he put on a shooting clinic. It seems like his hot shooting picked up the rest of his game on this occasion. He mixed in several nice drives as well. Miquel did cool off as the game went on, but he was still able to make some plays.

Will Kirkland (2008, 6-5 SF)
Will is a good size forward who’s very proficient from behind the arc. He has a smooth shot and can handle the ball. He rebounded fairly well and found his teammates on a couple occasions too.  Will was forced to play point guard on this day and managed to a decent job in that role. He is clearly not a good enough ball handler to do that on a regular basis though. He seems much more suited to play the small forward or possibly shooting guard slot. Nevertheless, Will had a solid outing.

Wes Kirkland (2008, 6-5 SF)
Much like his twin brother, Wes is also a good shooter. He has a smooth stroke and buried a very difficult fall away three in this contest. He’s a solid ball handler too.  Wes attempted to post up early on in the game, but missed both shots.

Donte Wooten (2008, 6-8 PF/C)
Donte had a solid few outing on the interior. The lefty hit a nice short jumper early in his first contest. He runs the floor well and can make athletic plays in transition. Donte was probably most effective rebounding and blocking shots though. He has very good hands which help him snatch rebounds. His offensive game is improving, but still needs work.

James Cotton (2008, 6-8 PF)
James is a big, athletic lefty. He makes a lot of plays in transition. The face up forward is also a good rebounder. He does a good job of keeping the ball high after rebounds. James has some decent passing skills too.

Ashton Pancky (2010, 6-7 PF)
With how well Ashton player, one might’ve mistaken him for junior. Instead, the athletic forward is just a freshman. Ashton can play inside or on the outside. He has a good back to the basket post game with nice touch on his shot. He’s a very good rebounder on both ends of the floor. He blocked a shot as well. Although he doesn’t do it as frequently, Ashton can play on the wing too. He’s a solid ball handler and has a smooth jump shot. New York doesn’t have many big men right now so it’s good to see some of this young talent coming up.

Devon Collier (2010, 6-5 SF/PF)
Devon is another New York freshman who stood out amongst some upperclassmen. He is a long and skilled forward. He made some nice plays around the basket. Devon handles the ball pretty well too. He was a little inconsistent finishing and had a few turnovers. He’s a very talented youngster who has some good years ahead of him.

Justin Renfrow (2009, 6-6 PF)
Justin is a sturdy post player. The big bodied player runs the floor and finishes well. He’s a solid passer and decent ball handler as well. Justin also knocked down a mid range jumper on this day.
