J.J. Gundry
Over the past two weekends, Villanova and La Salle both held their team camps. Each had a heavy dose of local favor. Here are some of the players stood out, including several new names and faces.

VILLANOVA CAMP

Hazleton

J.J. Gundry (2008, 6-6 SF/PF)
J.J. is a talented combo forward. He’s long and pretty athletic. He runs the floor well and can finish in transition. J.J. muscled his way to several buckets inside and was tough to keep off of the offensive glass. He also displayed a few nice moves in the post, including a hook shot. J.J. is proficient from behind the arc as well. He buried several three point attempts over the course of two games. He is a solid ball handler too, although he’s not super quick. J.J. does need to move quicker on defense. He may get overlooked because he doesn’t play against the strongest competition with his high school team, but J.J. is definitely a good player.

Holy Cross

Sylvan Landesberg (2008, 6-5 SF)
Sylvan is one of the best pure scorers around. He’s a very smooth three point shooter, although he was a bit streaky in that area on this evening. Sylvan is very long and adds to that a solid build. He’s a very talented prospect.

Bishop O' Connell

Jason Clark (2008, 6-2 170 PG/SG) Committed to Georgetown
Jason is just so quick and explosive. He was a blur in the open court all evening long and scored time and time again.

Zalmico Harmon (2010, 5-11 SG)
Zalmico is a solid all around guard. The youngster hit a nice floater in the lane. He also displayed a mid range jumper and added in a nice pass to his teammate. Zalmico also runs the floor well. He has a bright future ahead of him.

Kevin Jones (2009, 6-5 SG/SF)
Kevin put together another solid game. He finished well and showed off his sound ball handling ability. Kevin also flashed the strength of his game which is his mid range jumper. He does need to extend his range though.

Roman Catholic

Will Kirkland (2008, 6-5 SF/PF)
Will had a good outing for Roman in the few minutes of their game that I was able to catch. He knocked down a very difficult pull up jumper going left. He also attacked off the dribble quite often. Will showed his willingness to play some defense too when he took a charge.

St. Joe's Prep

Jim Mower (2008, 6-4 SG)
I’ve seen Jim a few times, but admit I didn’t watch him too closely. Unfortunately, I didn’t catch him on his best night. Jim has a good form, but really struggled with his jumper during this game. He was aggressive though going at the hoop. He leans his shoulder into the defender when attacking off the dribble to create some space. Jim is a solid ball handler, but not super quick. He did have a nice drive to the left side with a right hand finish. He also hit a runner in the lane and a pull up jumper. Jim did struggle with a few turnovers. It wasn’t his best night, but still a decent game.

Cardinal Dougherty

Willis Nicholson (2010, 5-10 SG)

Willis is a very quick young guard. He had a nice drive and finished after contact. He also can hit from beyond the arc. Willis showed a nice pull up mid range game as well. We should hear a lot more from him as time goes on.

LA SALLE CAMP

Ed DiRugeris
Germantown Academy

Ed DiRugeris (2009, 5-11 160 PG)
Ed has been out of action for quite awhile due to injury. He’s come back strong though this summer. He has a good handle and can get into the lane. He possesses a quick crossover move and is very aggressive. Ed finishes well when he gets into the lane. He is a high energy player who looks like he’s trying to make up for the time he’s lost. Ed has a pretty good jump shot too, but is a bit streaky. He still struggles some with his speed on the defensive end. He made a huge play late to propel his high school team to victory over his AAU team. Ed’s progress with be interesting to track over the next couple years.

Joe Hill (2008, 6-0 SG)
Joe is a solid guard prospect. He possesses a smooth jump shot. He is also a solid ball handler, although not super quick. He showed his unselfishness too with several nice passes.

Team Kobe

Nurideen Lindsey (2009, 6-2 PG)
Nurideen played another strong game. He’s one of the best scorers in the city. He’s slowly starting to transition his game. Nurideen is giving the ball up more and taking better shots. He really got everyone’s attention with a nasty throw down over Joe Hill. He has played well enough recently to earn an invite to the prestigious Reebok U camp next month.

Academy of the New Church

Sammy Givens (2008, 6-5 SG/SF)
Sammy put together another fine outing in front of the Explorers staff. He’s been doing an exceptional job all spring/summer of scoring off the bounce, pushing the ball up the floor and rebounding. What had been missing from his arsenal was his jumper. On Friday evening at the camp, Sammy brought that to the table too as he buried several outside shots. His form is good, although he doesn’t have the quickest release. He just needs more repetition with his jumper. Sammy continued his strong play on this weekend.

North Catholic

Xavier Harris (2011, 6-4 PF)
Xavier is a very gifted young prospect. He hasn’t played high school ball yet, but is already pretty dominant on the interior. He possesses a soft touch and is strong and plays a very physical style. Xavier is also an animal on the boards. North Catholic looks to have a gem on their hands.
