Two Saturdays ago, CAA Insider was on hand for the Reebok Headliner Tryout Camp in Philadelphia.  There were some outstanding performances on the second day of the camp, so without further introduction here are the player evaluations from Day 2.

Will Adams (2009, 6-5 SG)
After missing his first two three pointers and throwing a pass away, Will really picked up his game.  He then picked off a pass of his own and had a nice take, which he finished off with a finger roll.  Will made a nice cut to the hoop, caught the pass and hit a lay up.  He had another steal and got out on the break.  It looked like he attempted a dunk but did not get up enough but the ball still rolled in.  He also hit a three pointer, and drove the lane and threw down a monster slam.  Before the end of the half Will fired up a jump shot from about five feet across the half court line but just barely missed at the buzzer.

In the second half, Will hit a pair of three pointers, including one on which he was fouled.  Will really excelled at driving down the middle of the lane and finishing using his athleticism.  He would blow right by he defender and no one would step up to help out on defense clearing his path to the hoop.  Will would then emphatically dunk the ball with one hand.  He did this twice for the half and it seemed like an instant replay the second time he did this.  Will had yet another identical drive but finished with a finger roll instead of dunking it.  Will almost played his way into the All American Camp on Day 2 but just barely missed the cut.  He did earn himself a spot in the Proving Ground Regional Combine.

Tyrone Garland (2010, 5-11 PG)
Tyrone was the most impressive player at the camp in the two games we saw him.  He was an easy choice to move on to the Reebok All American Camp.  What really makes Tyrone dangerous is his ability to hit the pull up jumper, with range out to beyond the arc.  He has excellent elevation on his jump shot, which allows him to shoot right over his defender.  He has a smooth stroke and puts a lot of arc on his shots.  Besides his excellent pull up game Tyrone also showed the ability to get to the hoop and finish.  He had no problems dribbling into traffic on his way to the hoop.  Tyrone utilized a dribble hesitation move, a crossover and a spin move to get by his defenders.  Although Tyrone is an excellent shooter, he can also pass the ball.  He created a number of easy scoring opportunities for his teammates.  Defensively Tyrone did not always give maximum effort.  He can play defense, as he demonstrated by blocking a couple shots and getting a few steals, but the effort was not always there.  Otherwise Tyrone was outstanding in both games and even hit a game winning three-pointer in the second game.

Ade Barak (2009, 6-8 PF)
While Ade did not look to do much offensively in this game, he really made his presence felt on defense.  He blocked 4 shots in the first game we watched him in, including one that he pinned against the backboard.  Ade was also strong on the boards.  He did make one perfectly thrown pass to a baseline cutter out of the post. In his second game, Ade had another pair of blocks and continued his excellent rebounding.  This time he did a much better job of scoring off of offensive rebound put backs.

Ferguson Myrick (2009, 6-6 SF)
If he did not play on the same team as Tyrone Garland, Myrick would have been the best player on the court both times we watched him.  Myrick showed a lot of versatility.  He was able to drive the ball and score inside or keep it out on the perimeter and knock down 3 pointers.  He also rebounded the ball well and blocked quite a few shots on defense.  Myrick did an excellent job of finishing around the hoop.  He can finish with both hands and can adjust in the air to avoid attempted shot blocks.  He ran the floor well and scored a number of times in transition.  He threw down an athletic two-handed dunk on one such beak away.  Myrick made some nice passes as well, but he also made some bad passes resulting in turnovers.  His excellent play resulted in an invite to the Reebok All American Camp.

Abraham Bah (2009, 6-5 SF)
In the first game Abraham did not make a lot of plays but the couple he did make stood out.  Defensively he skied for two blocked shots.  His big highlight of the day came off an alley oop pass off the glass.  He caught the pass with one hand and threw down an athletic jam.  In the second game we saw him, Abraham did a nice job on the boards and scored on a put back.  After one rebound he threw a long outlet pass but it was off target and sailed out of bounds.  Abraham also threw down an open dunk and missed his only three-point attempt.

Kadeem Patterson (2010, 6-0 PG)
In the lone game of Kadeem’s that we saw he put together a solid performance.  He aggressively attacked the hoop, and was able to finish in traffic on the right side of the hoop and with contact.  When he went to the left hand side of the hoop he struggled to convert.  This was most likely because he used his right hand on the left side resulting in some awkward looking attempts.  He has the ability to drive with either hand and had one play where he drove with his left hand into the middle of the lane.  He then banked in a shot with his right hand while still on the move.  Kadeem displayed that he could hit shots from behind the arc but he was a bit streaky from there.  He hit a couple but also air balled one attempt.  Kadeem also rebounded well for his size and even had a tip in off a teammates miss.

Rysheen Dorn (2010, 6-4 SG)
On Day 2 Rysheen struggled with his outside jump shot when we saw him, but he was more successful closer to the hoop.  He hit a short turn around jumper as well as a pair of one-handed shots right over his defender from close range.  Rysheen also scored in transition, including a tough lay up on a 3 on 1 fast break.  Rysheen did come up with a game saving block in sudden death overtime but his team still ended up losing the game on a later possession.

Joey Gripper (2011, 6-0 PG)
This was not a great game for Joey.  He passed the ball fairly well throughout the game, but did throw a number of passes away.  He did have one spectacular behind the back pass that resulted in an easy lay up.  Joey struggled with his jump shot and with converting around the rim.  We did like that Joey was a vocal leader on the court.  This was impressive from such a young player.

Steven Baunchalk (2010, 6-1 SG)
Steven shot the ball very efficiently in the game we watched him.  He hit 5 out of 7 shots including 3 three pointers and a shot just a step inside the arc.

Jose Figueroa (2012, 6-5 SF)
Jose scored his points right around the hoop.  He had a couple put backs off offensive rebounds.  He did dribble the ball right out of bounds on one possession.

Rakeem Brookins (2010, 5-11 PG)
It was a rough start for Rakeem as he missed his first three-point attempt and then ended up getting hurt.  He had to leave the game but came back shortly afterwards.  Rakeem seemed to be hampered some by his injury for the rest of the game.  While Rakeem did not play badly, he tried to go one on one with Tyrone Garland and was outshined.  He did hit some tough pull up jumpers including one that was well defended from behind the arc.  Rakeem did hit another three pointer but he missed a couple other attempts.  He also passed the ball well.  He threw a no look pass and an outlet pass that resulted in an easy lay up.  Rakeem scored on the break himself as well.

Brian Parker (2010, 6-4 SF)
When we got to see Brian he did a nice job of scoring around the hoop.  He took the ball strong to the hole and used his body well to shield off defenders.  Brian scored out on the break on more than one occasion.  He also had a pair of tip-ins off his teammates misses.

Sabree Astillerd (2010, 6-0 PG/SG)
Sabree scored a couple baskets off fast break lay ups.  He also showed he could hit jump shots out to the three point line.  He hit one three-pointer and another just inside the arc.  Sabree jumped up and grabbed an offensive board and while still in the air he scored on a put back.  He also scored on another lay up and was fouled.

Ameen Tanksley (2011, 6-4 SF)
Ameen continued his strong play on day two, this time he showed a little more from the outside.  He attempted two three pointers, hitting one of them.  Ameen again used a pump fake to get his man in the air before hitting a lay up.  He runs the floor well and scored multiple times on fast break lay ups.  Defensively he had a pair of blocks.

KJ Brown (2009, 6-1 PG)
Brown played well on Day 1 but he was more impressive on Day 2.  He started off by hitting a three pointer and followed that up by banking in a shot, even though he was tripped and was falling down mid shot.  Brown hit another three pointer and knocked down a tough pull up jumper later in the game.  One of his highlights for the game came on a play where he drove the length of the court and hit a finger roll while still moving full speed.  One aspect of Brown’s game that he needs to work on is his passing.  Pretty much every time he got the ball he looked to score and passing appeared to be an afterthought.  There was one 2 on 1 break where he chose to take a difficult lay up rather than passing it to his wide open teammate right under the hoop.  He also threw away a pass earlier in the game.

Marcus Porter (2010, 6-3 SG/SF)
Marcus played well and earned a spot at the Proving Ground Regional Combine.  When we saw him on Day 2 he hit a tough lay up and was fouled.  He also hit a running one handed shot and a three pointer.

Cameron Badger (2009, 5-10 PG)
Cameron again played good defense on day two, but in the lone game we watched him he struggled offensively.  By our count Cameron missed 3 shots from outside the arc.  He also struggled some converting around the hoop, but he does have a good cross over that he used to get by his man on more than one occasion.  On one play, he crossed his man up, got to the hoop, hit the lay up and was fouled.  Cameron did have some decent passes but he tends to make passes too late.  Because of the delay it gives the defender time to recover.  If he made quicker decisions he could have gotten his teammates more easy buckets.

Chris Thompson (2010, 6-2 SG)
This shooter really put his skills on display in the one game we saw him in on Day 2.  He started off by hitting a pull up mid range jumper.  His next three scores came when he hit consecutive shots from behind the arc without missing an attempt.  Chris then hit another pull up jumper from a step inside the three-point line.  Chris also showed some ball handling ability when he dribbled behind his back to get by his man.  This game went into overtime and Chris came up with some clutch plays to lead his team to victory.  He hit a game tying lay up to send the game into sudden death overtime.  In the OT he fought for an offensive board and then hit a lay up to win the game.

Nasir Jones (2009, 6-4 SF)
Nasir did not play very well but he did have a couple strong athletic plays.  Defensively he had a pair of shot blocks.  Offensively his points came off lay ups and free throws.  He scored on one put back while being fouled.  Nasir did a decent job on the boards as well.  He did however struggle with his passing, making a number of poor passes.  He also missed his lone three-point attempt.

Aaron Brown (2011, 6-5 SF/PF)
We were able to watch Aaron play in two games on Day 2.  In game 1 he did a good job of taking the ball up strong and getting fouled. His jumper was not falling but he did convert from the foul line.  Aaron also had a good jump stop and finished with lay up.  In the second game he scored in a couple different ways.  He hit a mid range jumper, had a put back off an offensive rebound and he scored on a hook shot from the post.  On one possession Aaron muscled his way to the hoop and hit a lay up while being fouled.
