Kyle Gaillard
July is a big month on the traveling circuit.  The Hoop Group Elite Camp is one of the top events.  Action kicked off from the College of New Jersey on Saturday.  Here is a look at some of the best players we saw during the tryout games.

Kyle Gaillard (2009, 6-7 SG/SF)
This big wing made the long trek from North Carolina for this event.  If Saturday evening’s play was any indication, it was more than worth it.  We saw him a few times over the spring, but Kyle only showed glimpses of what he could do.  On this night, he put together a strong all around performance.  He is a good shooter who was knocking down jumpers from all over the court.

The lefty also ran the floor and scored in transition.  He had a nice drive and dish on the break and got the ball back for a strong finish.  Kyle had an athletic dunk too.  He’s not the quickest ball handler, but he’s good enough to get into the lane  and when combined with his size can be very effective around the hoop.  He can play a little face up game on the inside too as he showed with a difficult finish over top of a defender.  He does need to get stronger.  With his height, he could probably develop on the inside even more.  Kyle looks to be on his way to being one of the standout players in this event.

Jayvvi Myvivulula (2009, 6-7 PF)
It seems like the rich just get richer. As if Paterson Catholic wasn’t going to be strong enough next year, now they add Jayvvi into the mix. He was on of the top players that we saw on the day. The big man is strong and already quite skilled. He hit a nice left handed bank shot. Jayvvi showed his ability to get to the rim too as he had drove hard towards the goal and then buried a tough fade away jumper. He had a nice drive and reverse on another play. He does dribble with his head down, but Jayvvi is still effective getting into the lane. Look for this relatively unknown to have a strong camp.

Anali Okoloji (2009, 6-7 SF/PF)
This big forward was quite impressive.  Anali handles the ball very well for a player of his size and can get into the lane.  He not only drove to the basket, but the fluid forward buried a couple outside jumpers as well.  He posted up some, but did miss a hook on the inside.  Anali also grabbed a few boards.  He has a good body and possesses strong hands too.  He was one of the better prospects on the evening.

Anell Alexis (2009, 6-6 SF)
Anell is a big wing that can handle the rock.  He got into the lane a couple times, but didn’t attack too often.  Anell showed nice hands and some athletic ability too.  He blocked a shot on the defensive end.  He did miss on a pull up jumper during one of his few shot attempts.

Leonard Hayes (2009, 6-4 SG)
This big, left-handed guard had a very nice showing. He hit on several jumpers, including out to three point range. Leonard handles the ball well and often looked to push after grabbing rebounds.

Kyrie Sutton (2008, 6-9 230 PF/C) Committed to St. Peter's
Kyrie played well on this evening. The big bodied post was strong on the interior. He converted a short bank shot, followed his own miss and had an athletic dunk too. Kyrie can handle the ball some, but did get himself into trouble when he attempted to dribble too much. He put forth a nice game.

Brian Neller (2009, 6-3 SG)
This smooth shooter buried several three pointers throughout the evening.  That is certainly his specialty, as Brian is one of the best shooters around.  He won’t consistently blow by the defense, but he can make you pay off the dribble if you don’t guard him.  He had a nice drive and finish on one play.

Jovan Mitchell (2009, 6-5 PF)
This combo forward opened with a jumper from the outside.  He then went to work on the interior with several put backs.  Jovan can handle the ball and runs the floor well too.  He was a bit inconsistent finishing, but overall played a solid game.

Tony Peters (2009, 6-8 PF)
This face up forward had a solid game.  Tony converted a short bank shot on the inside.  In the open court, he threw down an athletic dunk.  He’s comfortable driving from the wing.  He had a very beautiful drive and dish for an assist.  Tony attempted a shot from beyond the arc, but missed.  He’s quite thin and would really be able to get more done on the interior with some added muscle.

Aishon White (2010, 6-2 SG)
Aishon put together a solid game.  He opened with a pull up jumper and end by hitting a three pointer.  In between, he attacked the rim off the dribble and ran the floor.

Riley Maye (2009, 6-8 PF/C)
Riley did most of his damage on the glass.  He grabbed rebounds on both ends of the court.  He scored on a put back, but failed to convert on a couple other plays on the inside.  He has a decent build, but could certainly benefit by hitting the weight room.

Shawn Lawrence (2008, 6-9 PF/C)
We didn’t watch his game specifically, but when we peeked over to the other court, Sean made several players.  The lanky forward is very athletic and showed that off with a couple blocked shots.  Sean also handles the ball well in the open court.  He does need to get stronger though.

Andre Marhold (2009, 6-7 PF)
It wasn’t a big game for this big man, but he made a few plays.  He had an athletic block and also grabbed several rebounds.  On the offensive end, he made a nice pass from the post during his limited touches.

Jeff Fields (2010, 6-3 PG/SG)
This guard got going early with a couple three pointers.  Jeff can certainly shoot the ball from the outside.  He also proved to be a quick ball handler too.  He used a good crossover move when on the attack.  The combo guard is more of a scorer than a setup man.  Jeff certainly stood out putting the ball in the hoop though.

Josh Daniel (2010, 6-6 SF/PF)
Josh is a big wing player who likes to attack the basket.  He’s a good ball handler who can get to the rim.  Josh converted on a floater.  Later, he took a rebound and went coast to coast for a left handed finish.  He grabbed several rebounds too during this solid outing.

Ryan Rhoomes (2010, 6-9 PF/C)
Ryan is a big man who put together a solid game on the interior.  He possesses good hands and it allowed him to pull down a number of rebounds.  The long and athletic big man also had a nice short drive and reverse finish.  Ryan struggled to convert on the few shots he took on the interior.
