Stellar Construction "Catch a Rising Star" Tournament

It's not too often that I make it back to the area I grew up in to cover hoops.  This might be "wrestling country," but you wouldn't know it from the large crowds that came to see LV's top teams take on other powers from throughout the state.  CAA Insider headed up to Allentown, PA to catch some high school action in the Stellar Construction "Catch a Rising Star" Tournament.  Here is a look at some players that we liked from Saturday evening.

Quakertown

Brett Roseboro (2009, 6-9 PF/C)
Brett showed to be a talented big man. He is quite agile and nimble for his size. His footwork is very good and he has several moves. Brett had a nice short post turn and banked home a shot. He had a good up and under move on one play. Brett spun towards the left on another play. He showed good hands too. He played quite well in this victory for Quakertown.

Parkland

Jaleel Clark (2009, 6-4 SG/SF)
Jaleel was outstanding for the Trojans. The athletic guard is aggressive and can attack off the dribble. He had a nice drive and runner in the lane. He had several tip-ins, including a very athletic one. He finished around the hoop and was fouled on one play for an old fashioned three point play. Jaleel showed a pretty good jumper too. He hit a deep two on one occasion. He rebounded very well at both end of the court. Jaleel looks to be very talented, but is a big time wide receiver whose future is likely on the gridiron.

Jon Ward (2009, 6-9 PF/C)
Jon is another big man who showed some nice skills. He moves pretty well and has a good set of hands. He can put the ball on the floor for a few dribbles. When he does drive, he needs to protect the ball better. Jon also showed the ability to step outside some. He hit a nice face up 12 foot jumper. He did grab a couple rebounds, but we would like to see Jon pull down more boards. He actually didn't score much, but still looked good.

Chester

Rahlir Jefferson (2009, 6-6 SF/PF)
When we first caught Rhalir with his new look Chester team a few weeks ago, he just put together an average game. The athletic forward was fantastic in this one though. He made a ton of plays around the rim, including quite a few blocks. He grabbed a ton of rebounds and pushed the ball after most of them. Instead of looking to score though, Rhalir passed off to his teammates. He made several terrific assists. It was easily the best we've ever seen him pass. Rhalir still didn't show much on the perimeter and that's an area to improve. If he can continue to distribute and handle the ball this well, Rhalir should see his stock rise even more.

Glen Mills

Aaric Murray (2009, 6-11 C)
This super talented big man was certainly the best player at the event. Aaric had an athletic tomahawk jam over another big man. He was great on the boards, showing off his athletic ability there too with one handed rebounds. He did get good positioning inside quite frequently. It is so frustrating to watch his team play though because Aaric doesn't touch the ball nearly enough. He scored a few points, but really could've been more dominant with some help.

Bethlehem Catholic

Al Blount (2010, 5-8 PG)
It was our first glimpse at this young point guard. Al is small, but pretty quick and he gets into the lane off the dribble. He's very aggressive and all over the court. He made a few plays in the lane. Al had a nice drive and kick out on one occasion. He also showed he can step outside and hit the three point shot. He missed a couple other jumpers too though. Al has an awkward form on his shot. He looks to be a solid guard.

Daniel Boone

Tyler Brooks (2010, 6-6 SG/SF)
This young wing player looked like quite a prospect. He's very long and lanky, but can handle the ball. He has a nice crossover move and can get into the lane. Tyler had a nice drive and finish on one play. He does tend to dribble high, but is still effective. He scored some while going at the hoop, but he was actually at his best dishing off the ball. Tyler has good vision and made several nice passes after breaking down the defense. He would benefit by adding some strength. With his length and perimeter skills, Tyler is an intriguing prospect.
