Jamel Fields
Our final day in Vegas found CAA Insider at the Nike Main Event taking in the action.  Much like the first two days, it was another strong showing in Sin City.  Here is a look at some of the top performers (and we don't mean on the Strip).

City Rocks

Jamel Fields (2010, 6-1 175 PG/SG)
Jamel is a quick lead guard who excels at getting into the lane off the dribble. He showed the ability to drive in either direction. He finished in traffic on several plays, including one that ended as an old fashioned three point play. Jamal also kicked the ball out to an open teammate on another play. He did airball one of the few outside shots he took, but overall Jamel played well.

Khaliq Gross (2009, 6-2 PG)
Khaliq had a very strong game. The quick guard can really get into the lane off the dribble. He had several nice drives and finished with a scoop shot and a runner. He also scored in transition. Khaliq showed that he can step outside too as he buried a three pointer.

Mike Goodman (2009, 6-6 SF/PF)
Mike is a strong forward. He followed his own miss on one play. He grabbed several rebounds as well. Defensively, he took a charge. Mike did struggle to finish though as he missed a post turn around jumper, as well as a runner in the lane and a three pointer. He does have a decent handle.

Jordan Stevens (2009, 6-5 200 SG/SF)
Jordan made a couple plays, but was quiet on this balanced team. He banked home a shot on the inside. The skilled guard also hit a floater in the lane. He missed on a jumper though.

Candon Rusin (2009, 6-3 SG)
Candon is a guard who likes to attack off the dribble. He had several nice spin moves to free himself. He did struggle to score though and missed from the outside during the action that we saw.

Chris Pelcher (2009, 6-9 PF/C)
This big bodied forward didn't have a big game. He had few touches offensively. Chris did pull down quite a few rebounds though.

Washington Shock

Jamal Olasewere (2009, 6-4 210 SG/SF)
Jamal is a talented wing player who put together a good game. With mostly lower level D-I programs looking on in the afternoon session, he showed what he was made of. The lefty really likes to attack off the bounce and he gets to the rim in a hurry. He had a nice drive, spin and finish near the hoop. After that, he converted a pair of runners after cutting to the hoop. He's not only quick, but Jamal is fairly strong. He hit on a transition floater later on. Jamal displayed a good set of hands as he grabbed several rebounds. In the second contest that we saw, he followed his own miss inside and showed his athletic ability on a dunk. Jamal failed to convert on any jumpers from the outside during the action that we saw. He was still quite impressive throughout the day though.

Stephen Griffin (2009, 6-1 PG)
Stephen is a point guard who showed very good passing skills. He dished out numerous assists throughout the day. He's a quick ball handler too. Stephen didn't look to score much.

King James Shooting Stars

Robert Johnson (2009, 6-6 SF)
Robert is a gifted wing player who possesses good size. He is very good at playing either inside or outside. Early on, he hit a pair of three pointers. He followed that up by using a crossover move to bank home a runner. Robert then started working down low. He hit a turn around jumper in the post, followed by a short runner inside. He then followed his own miss and also used a quick spin move to free himself up for a bank shot around the rim. Whether working inside or outside, Robert got it done for the Shooting Stars in this one.

Jonathan Smith (2009, 6-8 PF)
Jonathan is a lanky forward who can play both inside and outside. He opened by hitting a mid range jumper. Throughout the middle portion of the game, he was all over the boards on both ends of the floor. He showed he can handle the ball a little. Jonathan had few touches in the post. He made the play of the game though when he caught an offensive rebound with one hand in mid air and slammed it home at the buzzer for the victory.

Virginia Rapids

Ian Hummer (2009, 6-6 SF)
Rarely does Ian take the court and not produce. The highly skilled lefty can do so many things with the basketball that he's tough to stop. He opened by hitting a mid range jumper and a pull up jumper after a short drive. Following that, he battled inside for an offensive rebound and drew a foul. Ian is surprisingly athletic as he showed with a pair of dunks and another pair of blocked shots. Defensively, he also picked off several passes and showed he can defend inside or outside. On the offensive end, he hit another face up jumper. He also passes quite well, including out of the post. Ian was quiet in the scoring department down low, but that's an area he's very capable of putting up points in too. This do everything forward will be an outstanding pick up for whomever lands him.

Keith Mitchell (2009, 6-6 SF/PF)
Keith is a big bodied forward who is comfortable playing inside or outside. From the perimeter, he hit a three pointer to end the first half. He also drove to the hoop several times, once dishing off for an assist. On the inside, Keith did grab several rebounds. He missed a shot in the post though. He is a versatile forward.

Kevin Jones (2009, 6-5 SG/SF)
Kevin was very active on the interior. He grabbed rebounds on both ends of the floor. He scored on a put back and was fouled after another offensive rebound. He converted on a reverse in transition. Kevin proved to be a crisp passer too. He was quiet from the perimeter though.

Cecil Kirk

Antoine Allen (2009, 6-2 SG)
Antoine did a fine job of attacking off the dribble in this one. He had a couple great change of direction plays and drew several fouls as well as dishing off for an assist. He hit a runner in the lane with a foul for an old fashioned three point play. His speed and strength make Antoine a tough player to defend. Add to that, athletic ability which was on display on an alley oop jam. Antoine did struggle from beyond the arc. He showed he's a good free throw shooter though. Antoine played well when attacking in this contest.

Cleveland Melvin (2009, 6-8 PF)
Cleveland made a couple nice plays. He had an athletic dunk. He also drew a couple fouls, including on an alley oop attempt. He followed that up with a pair of free throws. Cleveland blocked a shot and grabbed a couple boards too. He did miss a jumper and hook shot.

Jerry Cummings (2009, 6-6 SF)
Jerry scored mostly from the foul line in the action that we caught. He hit on four free throws attempts. The big wing had a very impressive drive to the hoop on one play, but wasn't able to convert. He pulled down a few rebounds too.

Squash All Beefs

Thomas Robinson (2009, 6-7 PF)
Thomas was solid, but it was far from his best game. On the offensive end, he had a nice catch and lay-up as well as a reverse. He was inconsistent on the inside though. As is usually the case, Thomas grabbed a few rebounds and blocked a shot. The athletic and active forward has seen better days.

Phillip Wood (2009, 6-3 SG)
Phillip made a couple plays. He really hustled all over the court. Offensively, he scored on a put back and hit one of two free throws after a drive to the rim. He made a nice pass on one play. He missed on a three pointer and his form could improve in that area.

Percy Woods (2009, 5-11 PG)
This lead guard is a pretty good ball handler. Percy can drive in either directions and has a quick crossover. He scored with a scoop shot in transition. He did miss a couple jumpers during the time that we were watching.

Miami Tropics

Richie Edwards (2009, 6-7 SF)
Richie is a very big wing player who can score. He has a nice pull up game which is impossible to defend with his size. He wasn't on fire with those shots, but he was effective. Richie moves around and found himself free for a good finger roll finish after a cut to the hoop. He can handle the ball and get to the rim too, but he really seems to like the mid range game. Although he hit from there, he didn't show anything from beyond the three point line. Richie proved to be a player though.

Emari Bailey (2009, 6-7 SF)
Emari is a wing who likes to attack. He scored on a scoop finish with a foul, a floater in the lane and he also drew a few fouls. He did miss on a couple other runners though. Emari was also quiet from the perimeter.

MAC Irvin Fire

Terry Johnson (2009, 5-11 PG)
Terry did a good job of getting into the lane of the dribble. When doing so, he often kicked the ball out to open teammates. He also scored often in transition, including a finish with contact. Defensively, he poked the ball away from an opponent from behind on two occasions. Terry struggled with his jumper in this one.

FOH Seattle

Sterling Carter (2009, 6-0 PG)
Sterling is a quick change of direction guard. He got into the lane often off of the bounce. He had a nice scoop finish on one play. Sterling also made a great pass on the break. He failed to hit on the few jumpers he took.

Yamika Elite

Matt Borton (2009, 6-5 SG/SF)
Matt is a guard with size who can also shoot the ball. He possesses a very good stroke. He can catch and shoot or pull up. Matt can put it on the floor too. The straight ahead dribbler drew a foul while attacking. He showed some nice passing skills too. Matt could probably play anywhere from point guard to small forward positions. He was quite impressive in this one.

Georgia Tornadoes

Raymond Gregory (2009, 6-9 PF/C)
Raymond is a post player with a solid build, who also moves quite well. He showed very good hands in this game too. He struggled to convert though on the few touches he had inside. He did grab a couple rebounds as well.

Greenline Basketball Club

Brandon Smith (2009, 5-11 PG)
Brandon proved to be a very tough lead guard. He's a quick ball handler who can get into the lane off the bounce. When he gets into the lane, he's strong and can finish in traffic. Brandon proved to be ideal at running the point spot as he made several fine drive and dish plays. He could wind up being a real steal.
