Brown Deserves More Looks

Usually it's the Sonny Hill Seniors that are battling late into the Sonny Hill Future Stars Tournament.  With the Seniors knocked out of the tournament during pool play on Saturday, it was the Sonny Hill Juniors that found themselves in the semifinal round this past weekend.

Leading the way in the Juniors surprise run was 6-4 forward Marcus Brown from Engineering & Science in Philadelphia.

Marcus has shown himself to be a very skilled forward.  He has excellent hands, good size and is a pretty solid ball handler.  He is very smooth and can attack off the dribble.

Marcus has good, soft touch and can often hit runners or bank home shots around the glass.  Over the weekend, he really showed some nice range too as he was pretty consistent with his jumper from about 16 feet and in.  Because of his size and hands, Marcus is a strong rebounder too.  He can make plays on the inside too.

Marcus is not a household name in Philadelphia.  That doesn't mean he hasn't seen success on the basketball court.  The talented forward averaged nearly 20 points per game last season and was named third team All Public League by the Daily News.  He doesn't play on a top notch Public League team or a high profile AAU program, so Marcus appears to be flying under the radar.

Even though he might not be well known, some teams have already caught onto Marcus.  He told CAA Insider that he is hearing from Penn, Rider, Penn State, Albany and NJIT.  If more schools are willing to check him out, look for Marcus to prove his worth and pick up several scholarship offers.
