Drexel coach Bruiser Flint and St. Peter's coach John Dunne received good news this week in the form of two commitments.

The Dragons had already picked up two prospects from the New England region (Daryl McCoy and Dartaye Ruffin) for 2009 and their latest commitment formerly played in New England as well.

Their most recent recruit is Derrick Thomas who currently plays for St. John's College High School in D.C.  He transferred in from Northfield Mount Herman (Massachusetts) midway through last season.

While Derrick was in New England he played for the NE Playaz on the AAU circuit.  His future teammate Dartaye Ruffin also played for the NE Playaz at the same time.

Derrick informed us that he made his verbal commitment to the dragons this past Monday.  He previously told us that he held offers from James Madison, George Mason and Stony Brook along with Drexel.

St. Peter's went the junior college route to bolster their front court for next year with their first commit for next season.  They picked up a verbal commitment from forward Jeron Belin out of Monroe Community College in New York.

We had an opportunity to find out a little more about Jeron's commitment directly from the man himself.  Here is what he had to say.

“I just felt that it was the best choice for me because of the coaching staff and that it's kind of close to home.  I didn't go on a visit yet but I cant wait till I do though.”

“I feel as though I can be a help for next years team. Ryan (Bacon), Nick (Leon) and Wes (Jenkins) are doing their thing,  I just hope I can come in and join them.”
