Live in AC event coverage

GALLOWAY, N.J. – One of the top events in the Northeast during the final July Live Period was Live In AC and Recruit Recon was in attendance for all three days of the event.

While there, we put together some evaluations of players from all across the region, with a focus on the class of 2014.

Darian Bryant is probably best suited as a small forward despite being 6-foot-4, but his size does not limit him from making plays. A class of 2014 prospect at St. John’s College HS (DC), Bryant has a good build and he plays hard. The Team Takeover Orange standout finds ways to produce and he knows how to play. Bryant has a solid looking shooting stroke and he can hit the corner 3-pointer off the catch. His game is based a bit more on driving to the rim, though.

HAMPTON, Va. – Over 60 teams at the U17 level made their way to the Boo Williams Sportsplex for the 2013 Hoop Group Southern Jam Fest.

RecruitRecon had the opportunity to see quite a few of them in action and put together some notes on a number of players in the class of 2014.

Recruit Recon has seen plenty of good hoops in Eastern Pennsylvania to end the regular season.

We caught a couple season ending games that came down to the wire in front of packed houses (Emmaus vs. Allentown Central Catholic and Freedom vs. Liberty).

We even headed over to New Jersey to see Blair Academy pull of a big upset.  Here are the players that stood out as we closed out the regular season.

On Friday evening, Philadelphia’s best took to the court in the annual all star game.  The Wayne Ellington Classic was held at Girard College.  The four games were packed with action.  Recruit Recon was on hand for the games.

Junior Game

The Junior game was an up and down the court fasted paced game.  The black team won the game 73-72 on a buzzer beater by Michigan import Kyle Kuzma (Rise Academy).  Kyle is a big win player who displayed some nice skills, including a running hook in the lane and an athletic alley oop dunk.

Another athletic forward on the black team, Mustapha Traore of Prep Charter, ran the floor well and had several dunks.  Fellow forward, Basil Thompson of Imhotep Charter, took home MVP honors on the balanced squad.  In the backcourt, Constitution’s Floyd Preito showed good change of direction ball handling, as well as the ability to knock down the outside shot.  He did shoot a bit too much though.  Backcourt mate, Louis Myers of Math, Civics & Science, chipped in some as well.

For the losing white team, Jamal Custis of Neumann-Goretti was everywhere, as he won MVP honors.  The athletic forward threw down dunk after dunk after dunk.  He was just the third player ever to win three MVP awards in this game.  Roman Catholic guard Rashann London, had a strong showing as well.  He was great going at the hoop and also nailed a three pointer and had some nice passes throughout the game.  Rashann was also named Defensive Player of the Game for his fine efforts on the other end of the floor.
