Patterson School

Dominique Sutton (2007, 6-4 SG/SF) - Committed to Kansas State
I only caught a little over a quarter of this game, but it was hard not to notice Maurice.  He’s a strong, athletic wing player.  He’s a great leaper who had a few spectacular dunks.  He is also a good ball handler.  Maurice finished with 18 points and 5 rebounds.

Rice

Kemba Walker (2008, 6-0 PG)
This talented scoring point guard had a solid game.  He showed some nice shots off the dribble including a step back jumper as well as one of the pull up variety.  Kemba has very active hands on defense and that leads to many transition opportunities.  He did struggle to hit the jumper consistently, but still had an impact in various ways.

Lamont Jones (2009, 5-11 PG)
Lamont exploded early with a huge first quarter.   The quick and athletic guard was quiet through most of the game, but came through in a big way at the end.  He buried the game winning three while fading away at the buzzer.  Lamont also played well in transition.

Durand Scott (2009, 6-3 SG)
Durand is a long, smooth guard/forward.  He is a solid ball handler who has very good body control.  He loves to penetrate and can get to the hoop quickly due to his long strides.  Durand didn’t have a huge game, but showed some impressive skills nonetheless.

Plainfield

Anthony Nelson (2008, 6-2 PG/SG)
Anthony didn’t have a big game scoring, but he did a good job of getting into the lane.  He is quick and has a nice crossover. He drove and dished on quite a few occasions. Anthony seemed to have a knack for hitting his cutting teammates with passes for easy scores. He added in several buckets from throughout the court as well.

Jerrell Thompson (2007, 6-0 PG/SG) - Committed to Sacred Heart
Jerrell was Plainfield’s main scoring option on this day.  He shot well from the perimeter.  He also ran the floor and scored a number of transition baskets.

Harrisburg

Laron Williams (2007, 6-4 SG/SF)
Laron is not one of the better known players on this Harrisburg team, but you wouldn’t know that by the way he played.  He took home Player of the Game honors in this contest after having a big fourth quarter.  Laron buried several threes and also finished well in transition with several impressive dunks.  His strong play in the end sealed the victory for the Cougars.

Alphonso Dawson (2007, 6-5 SF) - Committed to Delaware
Alphonso is an active player.  He is solid in a number of areas.  He can score in the post, handle the ball, and run the floor.  He also is a good passer and rebounder.  Alphonso didn’t take many jumpers in this contest.  He didn’t have a monster game, but was solid all around, finishing with 18 points and 7 rebounds.

Ricardo Brown (2007, 6-5 SF) - Committed to Towson
Brown is a physical forward who appears most comfortable around the basket.  He is very active in that area and a good rebounder as well.  Ricardo also hit a tough pull up jumper.  He didn’t have a big game, but was definitely solid.

Christ the King

Erving Walker (2008, 5-7 PG) - Committed to Florida
Erving had a very quiet 20 points on this evening.  The usually steady shooter struggled to knock down jumpers.  He did attack the basket some, but for the most part settled for the outside shot.  Erving is so good from the perimeter that he depends on that area of his game too much rather than beating his man off the dribble (something which he can also do).  He is a very impressive player when he’s on the top of his game, but too often when I’ve seen him that hasn’t been the case.

Ryan Pearson (2008, 6-7 SF/PF)
The wiry lefty looks to be a player on the rise.  He can do a number of things.  He can score in the post and run the floor.  Ryan is also a capable three point shooter.  He’s a good athlete who can block shots and rebound as well.  He is certainly a player to keep an eye on.

St. Raymond’s

Gerald Colds (2007, 6-0 PG/SG) - Committed to Drexel
Gerald started the game off with a beautiful finish in transition.  He is very good at making some tough shots around the goal.  Gerald played unselfish and distributed the ball very well.  He helped the Ravens by converting two three point plays in the fourth quarter.  Gerald’s shot wasn’t falling in this game.  He is still a bit streaky in that area and will need to be more consistent, going on to the next level.  Because he is a capable scorer, Gerald has a tendency to force some shots.  He rarely has seen a shot he doesn’t like.  He finished with 14 points.

Darryl Bryant (2008, 6-1 PG/SG)
This powerful guard had a solid game for the winners.  Darryl combines power with a smooth jumper.  He knocked down several jumpers and showed great body control in traffic.  Because of his ability to score he does tend to take some poor shots.

Omari Lawrence (2009, 6-3 SG/SF)
Omari is a talented young sophomore who is already among the top players on this talented St. Raymond’s team.  The lanky left handed guard is very smooth and athletic.  He has great hands and uses his length well when navigating through traffic.  Omari is a very good passer and a solid shooter as well.  He can get out and run the floor as well.  He is also an active rebounding wing player.

Darion Benbow (2007, 6-6 SF/PF)
Darren is another one of the lesser known players who really stepped of for his team.  Like most of St. Raymond’s players, he displays great length.  He is a very active interior player who can score facing the basket.  He is a good rebounder on both ends of the floor.  Darren still hasn’t really developed a back to the basket game, but he does take advantage of his size.  He is a solid ball handler and capable of hitting the short jumper.  He’s a good leaper who uses those skills to block shots or run the floor in transition.  Darren was rewarded for his efforts by being named Player of the Game for St. Raymond’s.  He finished with 22 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks.
