Game Tape Analysis – Notre Dame Prep (90) – Hargrave Military Academy (81)

This was a battle of two very talented teams and the game was tight throughout its entirety.  It was a fairly sloppy game as there were a ton of turnovers but the game was also extremely fast paced.  There were also a bunch of missed free throws at the end of the game by both teams.  In the end Hargrave did not hit enough big shots at the end of the game. Notre Dame Prep (MA)

Johnny Higgins (2007, 6-1 PG)
Higgins is very good at using dribble hesitation to get by his man.  He loves to drive into the lane to draw the defense so he can get open looks for his teammates, displaying excellent court vision.  On one play Higgins made a spin move into the lane drew the defender and found the open cutter for an easy lay up.  Higgins also showed he could shoot off the dribble; he drove to the hoop and then hit a pull up fade away jump shot.  He does a good job of shielding the ball from defenders so it is tough to block or steal it from Higgins.  His perimeter game was almost non existent in this game, he took one shot from behind the arc and it was an air ball.  When the game was on the line Johnny hit 2 free throws to take the lead back but later missed 2 free throws in a row that would have put the game away.

Anthony Gill (2007, 5-11 PG)
Gill is a very quick point guard with some nice passing skills.  He had multiple good looks to get teammates Michael Beasley and Deonte Roberts wide open lay-ups.  Offensively gill did not have a huge game, but he did knock down a running floater and an off balance three-pointer.

Michael Beasley (2007, 6-8 SF/PF) - Kansas State
Beasley used a variety of spin moves in this game to go right by his defender and often break through double teams.  His spin move was so effective at times that it got him a few wide open dunks.  Beasley was pretty much unstoppable in this game.  He took it inside when he wanted to and scored at will and other times he settled for jump shots but he even hit most of them.  His versatility really showed when he nailed a turn around fade away jump shot.  Beasley also does a very good job of drawing contact and still finishing.  His rebounding ability was also unmatched in this game due to his strength and athleticism. It was easy to see in this game why Michael Beasley is one of the elite prospects in the nation.

Deonte Roberts (2007, 6-2 PG/SG) - Wisconsin - Milwaukee
Deonte is another skilled guard on Notre Dame.  When you first see him play he looks a bit out of control but he is actually much more under control than he appears.  He dribbles a little too high at times and often times leaves his feet to pass the ball but still managed to not turn the ball over much.  One of his favorite moves is a fake jump shot that he then passes in mid air.  His court vision is another one of his strengths.  Deonte shows a knack for getting to the hoop and finishes strong around the basket.  He also showed he could shoot from three but did not settle for too many outside looks in this game.

Jamine “Greedy” Peterson (2007, 6-8 SF) - Providence
Jamine had a big game against Hargrave.  All of Jamine’s points came from inside the paint or from the foul line in this game.  His shooting percentage was extremely high and it seemed as if he grabbed all the rebounds off his own misses.  Jamine showed his strength in the paint grabbing boards and scoring while being fouled.  He can also adjust in order to get his shot off, including putting a ton of spin on the ball.  Greedy is willing to run the floor and was rewarded by getting a couple wide open dunks, which he threw down with authority.  He can handle the ball fairly well but you would not want him bringing the ball up the court.

Hargrave Military Academy (VA)

Noah States (2007, 6-7 SF) - Furman
States is a long and wiry small forward.  He did not do too much in this game but he did have one nice put back off a teammate’s miss.  Defensively he struggled at times to stay in front of smaller quicker guards.

Jordan Crawford (2007, 6-4 PG/SG) - Indiana
Jordan is a talented guard but made some poor decisions in this game.  His shot selection could use some work but he also showed that he could hit difficult and contested shots.  He knocked down a running floater and a one handed jump shot while floating right.  He can also shoot from behind the arc.  Jordan has good size for a point guard has long arms and is also fairly quick.  One of the things that concerned me about his play in this game was his turnovers.  He had the ball stolen off him a couple times and he had a few errant passes.  Jordan Crawford tried to do too much at times causing him to play a bit out of control.

Eric Wallace (2007, 6-6 SF) - Ohio State
Wallace is an athletic forward with a solid mid range game.  He displayed his athleticism with a couple nice blocks and a strong one handed slam where he leapt from seemingly one stride inside the foul line.  When the game was on the line Wallace hit a hook shot and was fouled, he converted the three point play to put Hargrave up one.

Jeff Allen (2007, 6-8 PF) - Virginia Tech
Jeff Allen is another athletic forward for Hargrave.  He had more than one two handed slam and had a good few blocks in the game including one three point attempt.  Allen also seems to handle the ball well as he was dribbling behind his back and through his legs.  He did however turn it over when he tried to do too much off the dribble.  He has very good hands catching difficult passes in traffic and is also tough on the boards.  Allen can also take his game outside the paint and knocked down jump shots out to the three point line.

Jeremy Jacob (2007, 6-7 SF/PF) - Georgia
Jeremy played very well in transition and does an excellent job of running the floor.  He scored most of his points on either dunks or lay-ups on fast breaks.

Dorenzo Hudson
(2007, 6-4 SG) - Virginia Tech
Dorenzo Hudson had an extremely good game.  He hit three after three and scored in transition.  His threes came off screens or wide open looks for the most part but he hit a very high percentage and some from NBA range.  Dorenzo also showed he had a mid range game and he was three for three from the free throw line.  He finished the game with about 25 points without having to hog the ball.
