Ian Hummer
A strong weekend of action continued at Villanova on Saturday as most of the Philly's top teams took the court.  Here is a look at some of the outstanding players.

Scores:

Pennsbury 63 Neshaminy 30
American Christian 78 Academy of the New Church 71

Chester 83 Roman Catholic 73
Gonzaga 69 Neumann-Goretti 46

Gonzaga

Ian Hummer (2009, 6-6 SF)
Ian is a skilled forward who was quite impressive for the Eagles. He has a well rounded game and it was all on display during this one. The lefty has very good hands and a soft touch around the basket. He can play with his back to the basket and has developed some nice post moves. He can also step outside and hit the mid range jumper. Ian showed he can put the ball on the floor and attack in that fashion. He struggled early to find his rhythm, but picked up his game as the contest wore on. Not only can he score, but Ian proved to be an excellent passing big man too. He hit cutters with several nice passes from the high post on backdoor cuts. Ian had a big game on the glass too as he pulled down double figures in rebounds. He is a better athlete than one may initially think. He showed his ability to elevate with several blocks. Ian ended the game with over 20 points.

Max Kenyi (2008, 6-4 175 SG/SF) Committed to Harvard
Good luck to all the Ivy League programs when trying to stop this bouncy guard. Max just really gets to the rim quickly. On one play, he used a beautiful crossover to blow by the defender and convert a lay-up. The athletic guard runs the floor well and scores a lot in transition. In this contest, his jumper was really on as Max buried several pull up three pointers. He hasn’t always been consistent in that area when we’ve seen him, but his shot does look very smooth. Max finished in double figures as the Eagles cruised to victory.

Roman Catholic

Wes Kirkland (2008, 6-5 SF)
Wes had a very strong game for Roman in the victory. The wing knocked down three pointer after three pointer in this contest. By our count he used his smooth stroke to the tune of four of them. Wes finished with 12 points.

Will Kirkland (2008, 6-5 SG/SF)
Will does many of the same things as his brother. He had a solid game too, particularly with his jumper. Will hit a couple deep pull-ups inside the arc and well as several from beyond. He also took a charge on the defensive end. With games like tonight, the twins should see more offers role in. Will had 7 points in the win.

Courtney Stanley (2008, 6-1 PG) Committed to Loyola-Chicago
Courtney had a relatively quiet game. He did have several nice assists to his teammates, but was rather quiet in the scoring column.

Academy of the New Church

Shannon Givens (2009, 5-10 PG)
Shannon got the Lions going early with a couple steals and transition buckets. One of them was a very difficult finish in traffic. Shannon attacked off the drive and got into the lane. He did a good job of drawing contact. He’s small but loves going at larger defenders. Shannon knocked down a couple of three pointers in this game. He did miss a pull up three pointer that could’ve tied it. He scored a team high 17 points in the loss.

Larry Loughery (2008, 6-6 SF/PF)
Larry played another solid game. He ran the floor well, battled on the boards and scored some tough baskets inside. He is just so active and always in constant motion. Larry had several reverse lay-ups and finished well around the hoop. His most impressive play was a block of All American Tyreke Evans. He ended with 15 points.

Sammy Givens (2008, 6-5 SG/SF) Committed to Drexel
Sammy opened the game with several nice passes. He was at his best distributing the ball in this one. He passed on the break, on the wing or even out of a double team in the post. He was able to get to the rim, but really struggled to finish. Sammy crashed the boards too. ANC lead most of the game, but their lead evaporated down the stretch. Sammy made several key errors down the stretch. He lost the ball while dribbling which resulted in a backcourt violation. He also had 3 huge free throw misses. Sammy did finish with 10 points, but on a day when he became ANC’s all time leading scorer, he didn’t put together a very good game.

Ken Ross (2009, 6-0 PG/SG)
Ken played well for the Lions. This guard can really distribute the basketball much like most players on this team. He also showed the ability to knock down the open jump shot. He was solid in the tough loss, finishing with 10 points.

Chester

Karon Burton (2008, 5-8 PG)
Karon’s strong play at Villanova continued on Saturday. The lightning quick guard got into the lane and ran the floor well. He also distributed the ball to the tune of 5 assists. Karon buried several pull up three pointers. He was huge down the stretch for Chester after being somewhat quiet by his standards early on. He certainly held his own against another great Philly point guard in Villanova bound Maalik Wayns. Karon certainly loves to show off as he often tried to match Maalik shot for shot. Sometimes he was successful, other times he would’ve been better of making other plays. He plays with a swagger which can be part a good thing and a bad thing. We love his intensity, but he gets into trashing talking too often, including with the crowd. He is certainly a super talent and hopefully he’ll mature. He ended the contest with 18 points.

Kevin Green-Germany (2008, 6-0 PG/SG)
After a quiet Friday night, Kevin came back strong on Saturday. He has a very sweet stroke and buried a number of three pointers including some from very long range. Not only can he catch and shoot, but he can pull up and knock down shots as well. He also threw a fantastic behind the back pass in the open court. Kevin is a kid who has really helped himself this winter with his strong play.

American Christian

Devyn Erwin (2009, 6-7 SF/PF)
Devyn played more tonight than on Friday. He really caught everyone’s attention with some plays above the rim. The high flying forward had an offensive rebound follow up dunk over a defender. He is a fantastic athlete who also blocked a shot in his limited minutes. He also pulled down some rebounds. His energy seemed to help lift American Christian and it’s a shame Devyn didn’t play more.

Pennsbury

Ed Dirugeris (2009, 5-11 PG)
Ed played well for the Falcons. He was very aggressive attacking the rim as usual. He also ran the floor well and even distributed the ball. Ed did show he can hit a difficult pull up mid range jumper. He finished with 10 points and was named Player of the Game for Pennsbury.

Dante Devine (2010, 6-0 PG/SG)
Jesse had a solid, but not spectacular day. He was at his best distributing to teammates. He also ran the floor some.

Jesse Krasna (2010, 5-11 PG)
Jesse had a solid, but not spectacular day. He was at his best distributing to teammates. He also ran the floor some.

Neumann-Goretti

Jamal Wilson (2008, 6-5 190 SG/SF) Committed to Rhode Island
Jamal actually was rather quiet by his standards. He had an offensive rebound follow up and several nice drives to the basket. That was really the extent of his damage though.
