ImageOld Dominion picked up the CAA’s first, and so far only 2010 commitment, from Dimitri Batten out of Heritage High School in Newport News, Virginia.  CAA Insider caught up with Dimitri for a Q & A session.

CAA Insider: First off, I would like to congratulate you on choosing Old Dominion.
Dimitri Batten: Thank You.
CAA Insider: What did the ODU coaching staff do during the recruiting process to make Old Dominion seem like the right place for you to continue your basketball career?
Dimitri Batten: They told me about their different programs, and asked me what do I want to major in.  They told me they had one of the best engineering programs.

CAA Insider: Was there any one member of the ODU coaching staff that was primarily responsible for your recruitment?

Dimitri Batten: Coach (John) Richardson.

CAA Insider: What was it about the Old Dominion program that made you want to commit so early in your high school career?

Dimitri Batten: Because I looked into the school for engineering and they have a good program and then I wanted to stay close to home, because my family and friends can see me play.

CAA Insider: Did you take an official or unofficial visit to the campus?

Dimitri Batten: I took an unofficial visit.

CAA Insider: What did you do on your visit?

Dimitri Batten: I took a tour around the campus and talked to Ben Finney and looked at the gym.

CAA Insider: Will being committed already, change your approach to your next two years of high school basketball in terms of play, training, or confidence?

Dimitri Batten: Yes, because I do not have to be stressed out my last two years.

CAA Insider: What other schools were recruiting you?

Dimitri Batten: VCU, Miami, Clemson, Hampton, JMU, UVA, VT.

CAA Insider: Which of these schools did you have offers from?

Dimitri Batten: None really, they were talking about it.

CAA Insider: What are the strengths of your game?

Dimitri Batten: Driving to the basket, dunking, mid-range and my defense.

CAA Insider: What areas of your game do you need to work on the most?

Dimitri Batten: The three.

CAA Insider: You have the ability to play multiple positions, but what position do you prefer to play?

Dimitri Batten: Where the coach puts me.
CAA Insider: Seeing you commit early to ODU, do you think any other local players will follow your lead and end up at Old Dominion as well?

Dimitri Batten: Yea.

CAA Insider:  Who has had the greatest influence on your basketball career and why?

Dimitri Batten: My uncles, because they always say "Go hard every time I get on the court".

CAA Insider: What other activities are you interested in other than basketball?

Dimitri Batten: Football was my second sport.

CAA Insider: Thank you for your time, and good luck next season.

Dimitri Batten: Thank You.
