Virtually all of the best players in Philadelphia over the last few decades have played in the Sonny Hill League at one time or another.  The league kicked off last week.  Recruit Recon was on hand to take in the games on Wednesday night.  Here is a look at some of the outstanding players.

Laborer's District Council

Deshon Minnis (2010, 6-2 PG)
Deshon did a fantastic job in this contest.  The lead guard was at his best when attacking the rim.  He's quick and can change directions in a hurry off the dribble.  Deshon possesses excellent body control and is a good finisher.  He hit a couple runners too, including one after driving left and drawing a foul for an old fashioned three point play.  The scoring point guard hit a deep pull up jumper too.  Deshon could benefit by showing more ability to distribute the ball.  He's fantastic at getting to the hoop and scoring though.

Jamir Hanner (2010, 6-7 SF/PF)
Jamir was solid in this game.  The combo forward finished around the rim on several plays, including a dunk.  He likes to faceup on the interior.  He hit a short jumper when doing so.  Jamir does seal well in the post.  He tries to shoot using both hands when on the inside and at times that exposes the ball or makes it difficult for him to convert.  He had a strong game on the boards on both ends of the floor.  Although Jamir is very athletic, he didn't show much of that in this game.  He did block a shot though.  All in all, it was a decent game.

Dion Waiters (2010, 6-2 200 PG/SG) Committed to Syracuse
Dion made a few plays.  He scored on a drive and dunk and converted a floater too.  He also had a couple other baskets, including an old fashioned three point play.  Dion did struggle to finish though and also couldn't find his jumper.  While it was a solid day, it certainly wasn't one of the best from this outstanding guard.

Malik Allen

Carl Wallace (2010, 6-3 SG/SF)
Carl was a player we hadn't seen before and he really impressed us.  He's a good combo guard with a quick handle.  He can get into the lane and score or dish the ball off.  Carl had a beautiful coast to coast runner.  He also drove to the left and passed off behind his back for an assist.  He stepped outside and nailed a three pointer too.  Carl also played some aggressive defense too.  He's definitely a player we are interested in seeing again.

Lamar Hayes (2011, 6-0 PG)
Lamar had a good outing.  He has a quick handle and is a good hesitation dribbler.  He drew a foul on one and dished off on another drive.  Lamar hit a three pointer too.  He struggled with a couple turnovers.  He does need to get stronger.  Lamar has some talent though.

Shaq Duncan (2010, 6-8 PF)
Most of Shaq's play came in the forms of dunks.  He's pretty athletic and ran the floor often.  He was setup with good feeds from his teammates, but also moved well without the ball.  Shaq grabbed a few rebounds and blocked a shot too.

Sam Cozen

Richard Hoskins (2012, 5-11 PG)
Richard is a talented young guard with the ability to attack off the bounce.  He has a quick handle.  He finished with a foul on one play.  Richard had another coast to coast finish.  He blocked a shot as well in the victory.

Chris Burney (2011, 6-6 PF)
Chris is a solid post player.  He scored inside several times on putbacks.  He hit a nice post hook shot with his back to the basket, but would benefit by showing more moves.  Chris can put the ball on the floor a little too, as he displayed with a short bank shot.  He's fairly strong and finished with contact too.

District Council 33

Steffon Poole (2011, 6-3 SG/SF)
Steffon is a wing player who likes to attack the hoop.  He handles the ball and can get to the rim.  He finished with a foul for an old fashioned three point play and converted on a scoop shot too.  Steffon can drive in either direction.  He didn't show much from the outside in this contest.

Matlida's Kids

Ky Howard (2011, 6-3 SG)
Ky is a young guard who had a solid game.  He showed the ability to attack off the dribble.  He hit a runner and banked home another shot.  Ky drove left and drew a foul and also kicked out a pass to an open teammate.  He even showed the ability to take advantage of his size and score in the post over a smaller player.  Ky played well in their blowout win.
