Voelkel's strong play earns him offers

Over the course of the spring and summer, we had the opportunity to see the Westchester Hawks play on numerous occasions at various events.

One of the players who always seemed to stand out for the Hawks was combo forward Brian Voelkel .

Brian is a player who can play inside or outside, although at 6-4 he is probably better suited to play out on the wing at the next level.  When playing inside he can use his quickness to beat out slower taller defenders.  He also has good hands and battles on the interior in order to pull down boards.

Playing out on the perimeter Brian already displays a variety of wing skills but they could use some refining.  He can put the ball on the floor and can get to the hoop, although he could tighten up his handle a bit.  His passing ability and basketball IQ are of high caliber as well.  Brian can shoot the ball too but is somewhat streaky.  He will need to shoot the ball more consistently in order to play out on the wing full time.

With Brian's strong play we wanted to contact him to find out where his recruitment stands presently.

Before this latest update we had Brian listed with interest from American, Fairfield, Fordham, Hofstra, Manhattan, New Hampshire, Siena and Vermont.

Brian has now informed us that he has offers from Vermont, Robert Morris, Manhattan, New Hampshire, Stony brook, Canisius and Central Connecticut State.

He also let us know that a number of schools in the Patriot League will most likely offer after he retakes the SAT.

At this point Brian has one official visit scheduled and that is to Manhattan in September.

We will keep you updated on any further developments in Brian's recruitment.
