Patriots and Blue Devils land commitments

Earlier today we learned that George Mason and Central Connecticut State both picked up their first commitments for 2010.

We received word from Jonathan Arledge 's dad that he will be heading to Fairfax Virginia next year to suit up for Coach Laranaga and his GMU Patriots.

Shortly after getting the update on Arledge, we were informed that Terrell Allen from Norfolk Collegiate School gave a verbal commitment to CCSU.

Luckily for us, we have already had the opportunity to see both of these players in action.

Terrell Allen is a 6-6, 215 lbs forward, and when we saw him last spring he played mainly in the post.  He was tough on the interior and flashed his athletic ability on a blocked shot.  Most of his points were scored right around the hoop including a couple put backs after pulling down offensive boards.  Terrell could have however finished more consistently on the inside.  Hopefully we will get to see more of Terrell before he arrives at CCSU.

Jonathan Arledge looks to be a spectacular pick up for Mason.  We saw him multiple times over the summer and he was easily one of the most impressive players we witnessed, earning him a 4 rating (High Major Rating).  At 6-9 he displayed excellent athleticism and the ability to play on the inside or out on the perimeter.

When playing in the post he proved to have good hands and great touch around the hoop.  His footwork was solid and he made quick post moves.  Jonathan was able to regularly hit a hook shot but only with his left hand.  It appeared he could benefit from further developing the same level of comfort with his right.

If Jonathan was only an interior player he would still be quite a prospect, but it is his ability to play out on the perimeter that is really impressive.  He showed that he could step out and knock down shots out to beyond the 3 point line as well as putting the ball on the floor.  On one occasion he even hit a runner off the dribble.  Coach Laranaga looks to be continuing his fantastic recruiting with this latest pickup.
