Here is the last of our player evaluations from the National Prep Showcase.

Blair (78) vs. St. Andrew’s (67)

Blair

Ryan Lubreski (2010, 6-3 SG)
We only saw the first half of the Blair/St. Andrews game but in that half it was the Ryan Lubreski show.  Ryan came out and buried his first 5 shots from beyond the arc.  These were not all easy looks either.  One of these shots he fired up immediately after catching a pass with a defender right in his face and he was fading away.  He did however air ball a mid range jumper that he was again fading away on with a man in his face.

Besides his outside shooting Ryan was also able to convert around the hoop.  After grabbing an offensive rebound he took 2 dribbles to go to the other side of the hoop for a layup.  In transition he got out just ahead of a defender and in order to keep the defender behind him he shielded him with his body and leaned forward to hit his layup and drew the foul.  Ryan did make a poor decision with the ball as he threw a cross court pass too high for his teammate and it sailed out of bounds.  On the defensive end of the court Ryan was playing very tough on Syracuse commit Michael Carter Williams.  He picked his pocket on one occasion and got a fast break started out of it.  This was probably the most impressive first half performance of the entire event.

Lionel Gomis (2011, 6-9 PF)
Lionel was extremely active on the glass in this game, using his leaping ability and hustle to grab rebounds.  Offensively he was pretty quite but did score on a put back and he did make a great bounce pass to a man cutting down the lane.  Running the floor was another strength of his.

Mattia Bradascio (2010, 6-10 C)
Mattia is a very long and skinny player but he runs the floor very well for his size.  He also showed that he could knock down a mid range jumper by draining a shot from along the baseline.

Hakeem Harris (2010, 6-0 PG)
Hakeem ran point and showed that he could either get to the hoop and score or shoot from the outside.  He drained an open 3 pointer and had a chance for another old fashioned 3 point play.  On that play he attacked the hoop and converted on the layup while being fouled, but he did miss the ensuing free throw.  Hakeem did have a beautiful pass from the perimeter to an open teammate under the hoop but it was a bit too hot for his teammate to handle and it ended up going out of bounds.

St. Andrews

Youri Dascy (2010, 6-6 PF)
Youri pulled down an offensive rebound and immediately put back up a hook shot.  He hit the hook shot and was fouled on the play.  Youri knocked down his free throw attempt as well.

Ricardo Ledo (2012, 6-5 SG/SF)
Ricardo is a long wing player who demonstrated his jump shooting ability in the first half.  He drained a shot from beyond the arc and then got another 3 pointer to roll in after that.  His next shot was also from 3 point range as well but he missed this attempt.  One of his teammates grabbed the rebound however and Ricardo cut down the lane, got the pass back and hit a layup while being fouled.  He did miss his free throw attempt.  Later in the half he hit a fade away jumper from just inside the 3 point line.

Northfield Mount Herman (69) vs. Maine Central Institute (54)

Northfield Mount Herman

Laurent Rivard (2010, 6-5 SG) committed to Harvard
This Harvard commit has a very smooth stroke on his jump shot and showed it off in this contest.  He buried a 3 pointer and another shot from a step inside the arc.  Laurent also hit a short jump shot after grabbing an offensive rebound.

Vince Van Nes (2011, 7-0 C)
While Vince was not all that involved in the offense, he did move very well for a 7 footer.

Majok Majok (2010, 6-8 PF)
Majok is an athletic big man who also runs the floor very well.  In transition he was able to catch a long outlet pass and hit the layup without slowing down.  When he pulled down defensive rebounds he also looked to start up the break by throwing outlet passes.  This did result in 1 turnover though on an off target pass.  His athleticism was put on display in this game on a couple different occasions.  Defensively he used his leaping ability to force his opponents to alter their shots.  On the offensive side of the ball there was 1 possession where Majok went up high in an attempt to dunk right on his man, but the ball ricocheted hard off the back of the rim.  Luckily it went right to 1 of his teammates who then proceeded to pass the ball back to him.  Majok then threw down an athletic 2 hand jam.  Most of Majok’s other points were scored off of layups.

Aaron Cosby (2011, 6-2 PG/SG)
Aaron started off strong by hitting a jumper on the move fading left over a defender.  Later in the game he did miss on a pair of 3 pointers.

Maine Central

Steven Roundtree (2010, 6-7 SF)
Steven has excellent size for a wing player and has some explosiveness to his game.  On one of his drives he made an extremely quick spin move to get around his man but he did not convert on the bank shot coming out of the spin.  He also had a very quick drive along the baseline but he did convert this time on a 2 hand reverse layup.  Steven showed some of his leaping ability by flying into the lane to tip in a teammates miss.  After pulling down an offensive rebound he went back up with the ball for a double clutch put back attempt but he was fouled on the play.  He hit 1 of his 2 attempts on this trip to the charity stripe.

Georgios Papapetrou (2010, 6-4 SG)
Georgios again caught our attention with his shooting as he knocked down a pair of 3 pointers.  Besides his shooting though he also had a nice little drive and converted on a tough layup.

Tyshawn Bell (2010, 6-7 PF)
Tyshawn has an interesting skill set as he does not really have the quickness to play out on the wing but he can shoot off the dribble and will take shots from beyond the arc.  He hit a pull up foul line jumper with 2 men on him but his lone 3 point attempt was partially blocked.  When playing closer to the hoop Tyshawn was able to score in a couple different ways.  While posting up he hit a turnaround fade away jumper.  After pulling down an offensive rebound he went right back up with it and adjusted mid air to avoid a shot block before hitting the layup.  He did miss on another short jump shot but he did tip in his own miss.  In transition Tyshawn hit a double clutch layup in order to avoid a shot blocker.

Levan Shengelia (2010, 6-9 PF/C) committed to Rhode Island
Levan is a tough player who runs the floor well and hustles, but is not the most athletic player.  Despite his lack of leaping ability Levan still proved to be strong on the boards due to his hustle and his willingness to mix it up inside.  He can put the ball on the floor some and even made a spin move off the dribble.  Although the spin move was pretty slow it still got the job done as he got around his defender.  Levan also used a pump fake effectively on a couple of occasions.  Once from the perimeter he pump faked to get his man off his feet and then he drove to the hoop drawing a foul and hit 1 of his 2 attempts from the line.  On the inside he gave another pump fake again getting his man off his feet but this time he drew the foul and still converted on a short jump shot.

New Hampton (81) vs. Kiski School (48)

New Hampton

Dartaye Ruffin (2010, 6-8 PF) committed to Drexel
Dartaye did not do a whole lot offensively in his game but he really didn’t need to because New Hampton went up big early on.  Really he did not even attempt to score very much but he did miss a mid range jumper.  He did show he could put the ball on the floor some and he did make one beautiful pass that split 2 defenders and hit a teammate who was cutting down the lane.  Dartaye was also solid on the boards despite going up against the Bhullar brothers who are both well over 7 feet tall.  Dartaye did a nice job of boxing them out and drew an over the back call on 1 occasion.  Defensively he picked off a couple passes by jumping into passing lanes.

Kyle Cain (2010, 6-7 SF/PF committed to Rhode Island
Kyle used his athletic ability to battle inside against the larger Kiski players.  He went up high to pull down rebounds and also blocked a shot.  Offensively Kyle scored in a variety of ways around the hoop.  He scored on a put back after pulling down a tough rebound and also hit a reverse layup with 1 of the Bhullar brother right on his back.  Kyle also had a nice take off the dribble where he got past his man and to the hoop for a layup.  His most impressive bucket of the game was probably a running hook shot right over his 7 foot plus defender.  Kyle also further demonstrated his leaping ability by throwing down an emphatic dunk.

Thomas Bropleh (2010, 6-5 SF)
Thomas demonstrated that he could hit from outside or generate points around the hoop.  He buried a three pointer and also scored on a tough layup with contact.  One another play he cut down the lane and caught the pass but was fouled.  He hit both of the ensuing free throws.

Jordan Laguerre (2011, 6-1 SG)
Jordan proved to be quick off the dribble and he utilized his quickness to take it to the hole for a bucket.  He also got out in transition and hit a layup, just beating the defense to the hoop.  Jordan also buried a shot from beyond the arc.

Kiski School

Stefan Jankovic (2012, 6-9 PF)
Stefan is a very active player with a solid skill set but his game still looks a bit awkward.  After crossing his man over to gain some space, he then proceeded to knock down a mid range jumper.  On another occasion where he put the ball on the floor, Stefan drove along the baseline and hit a layup off the glass.  Stefan also threw down a dunk while out all alone on the break and he buried a 3 pointer.

Tanveer Bhullar (2013, 7-2 C)
Tanveer really did not do all that much in this game but his size alone was a bit of a disruption in the paint.  He airballed a short jumper and missed both of his free throw attempts.  Tanveer did miss another point blank shot but he ended up getting his own rebound and successfully converted a layup off the glass.

Sim Bhullar (2012, 7-4 C)
This was a more productive game for Sim than the first time we saw him.  His size still caused problems inside but this time he rebounded the ball more effectively and was able to score around the hoop.  From in the post he caught a pass and then turned and hit a layup.  Sim also scored on a pair of short shots but he did not leave his feet on either shot.  Sim even had an alley oop dunk but again he did this without really leaving his feet.  It was nice to see a little offensive ability to go with his incredible size.

Barry Smith (2010, 6-6 SF)
Barry has some quality skills as he handled the ball pretty well and demonstrated that he could dribble behind his back or cross his man over.  After one drive he hit a short bank shot and followed that up by hitting a fade away midrange jumper.  Barry also stepped out and hit a 3 pointer as well.

Daymond Cowlah (2010, 5-11 PG)
This lead guard used his quickness to get in the lane and from there he was able to score in a couple different ways.  Daymond hit a running 1 hander off the glass, as well as a tough layup while being fouled, but he did miss the following free throw.  He also had an impressive step back foul line jumper but he did put up an air ball when he put up a shot from beyond the arc.
