Amir Garrett cleared to play for St. John's

stjohns.jpgScreenRave: St. John’s freshman Amir Garrett is finally eligible to play for the Red Storm after a lengthy wait.
Garrett will join a team with many unresolved issues. The Red Storm has been without coach Steve Lavin for much of the season as he recovers from prostate surgery. St. John’s also lost guard Nuri Lindsey after he decided to transfer. Garrett is excited to get back on the court, his father, Darrow, confirmed with late Tuesday.

Garrett was one of three incoming players to be deemed ineligible. The others, Jakaar Sampson and Norvel Pelle, have moved on from St. John’s. Sampson went back to prep school and Pelle is considering a move to UNLV.

Also in the future for Garrett is a summer in the Cincinnati Reds minor league system. Garrett was chosen in the 22nd round of the 2011 MLB draft and received a bonus of more than $1 million to be spread over five years.
