Star News Online: Depth at point guard shouldn’t be a problem for UNCW in 2012-13. Chris Dixon is joining the Seahawks.

Dixon said via text message late Monday night that he made a verbal commitment to UNCW coach Buzz Peterson earlier in the day. He’ll sign the official scholarship papers today. Dixon was one of three players who made an official visit to Wilmington over the weekend.

Dixon shot 42 percent and averaged 10.5 points for Redlands (Okla.) CC last season. He gives the Seahawks another experienced ballhandler and playmaker in the backcourt. He spent one year as a walk-on at Alabama and one year at Redlands. He’s eligible to play in 2012-13.
