Ohio State Forward J.D. Weatherspoon Transferring to Toledo
Saturday, 19 May 2012

ImageUT Rockets: University of Toledo Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk announced on Tuesday that 6-6, 215-pound forward J.D. Weatherspoon (Columbus, OH) is transferring to the Rockets' program from Ohio State University. Weatherspoon will become eligible to play for UT in 2013-14 and has two years of eligibility remaining.

"J.D. brings a great deal of athleticism and excitement to our program and we are happy to welcome him to our Rocket family," Kowalczyk said. "He's a forward that plays above the rim and is a very good rebounder at both ends of the floor. I think a year to sit out and work on his skill level will benefit J.D. greatly, and we look forward to him being an impact player for us as a junior."

Weatherspoon averaged 3.0 points and 1.1 rebounds per game in 25 contests as a sophomore. He shot a team-best 61.7 percent (29-47) from the field and scored a career-high 10 points vs. VMI (Nov. 23). Weatherspoon also tallied eight points vs. Penn State (Jan. 25) and Iowa (Jan. 7). The Northland High School graduate's athleticism was on full display when he appeared on ESPN's Top 10 Plays for a late-game dunk vs. Miami (Ohio) on Dec. 22.
