Niagara adds experienced big man

ImageNiagara-Gazette: The Niagara men's basketball team got bigger, older, and, presumably, better on Saturday when former LaSalle forward Devon White announced his intentions to play his final season with the Purple Eagles.

White, who stands 6-foot-8 and weighs 240 pounds, is eligible to play for Niagara right away after graduating from LaSalle last month. He played in 93 games over the past three seasons, averaging 5.8 points and 4.7 rebounds in 16.2 minutes per game   for last season's 21-13 Explorers squad.

White opted to forgo his final year at LaSalle in order to find a situation where he could have a more prominent offensive role and put himself in position to play professionally after his college career, according to his AAU coach, Kamal Yard.

"He's a wonderful player," said Yard, who coaches the Philly Pride program. "He's a defensive stalwart, particularly for (the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference). He's not going to come in and get 30 points per game, but he's going to be a consistent double-double guy. He's going to hold down the fort inside.
