Sporting News: Ohio State has scored a major commitment from the high school class of 2014, landing small forward Keita Bates-Diop of Normal, Ill., according to multiple reports.
Bates-Diop, ranked No. 27 in his class by Scout.com and No. 20 by Rivals.com, had been one of the hottest targets on the recruiting trail since a breakout summer during which he emerged as the star of the 16U Illinois Wolves AAU team.
The 6-7, 190-pound Bates is "has really nice touch and a high release point," according to ESPN.com. "He also is very long, which makes it very hard for guys who would be guarding him block or alter his shot. Combine that with a good vertical and he has a great outside presence."
Bates-Diop told Scout his decision to sign with Thad Matta's team involved a lot of little things. “I really liked the coaching staff and the people on my visit. I was just very comfortable there.”
