Darius Paul's transfer means Western Michigan losing Freshman of Year
Friday, 26 April 2013
ImageMLive: After the Western Michigan University basketball players learned late Tuesday afternoon that freshman Darius Paul is leaving the team, Shayne Whittington left University Arena and enjoyed dinner with teammates.

A couple hours after the meal, the surprising news was not any easier for Whittington to digest.

Paul, the Mid-American Conference’s Freshman of the Year, has decided to transfer from WMU and was granted an unconditional release. Paul said Tuesday he did not know where he’ll transfer.

“I mean, our approach is going to be the same,” said Whittington, the Broncos’ center and leading scorer and rebounder. “Of course it’s going to be a big loss.

“He’s been a really good friend – that’s something we’ll lose. But, like we always do, we’ll pick up where we did last year. We’re mostly going to be missing our friend, I think.”
