BSU coaching staff lands first commit
Wednesday, 01 May 2013
ImageThe Star Press: Shortly after his introductory press conference on April 10, Ball State basketball coach James Whitford said he intended to sign another player or two in the 2013 class, but only if he considered that player to be the right fit.

Whitford found that player in Mark Alstork, a 6-foot-4 senior shooting guard from Dayton, Ohio. Alstork orally committed to Ball State on Thursday morning, and he intends to sign his national letter of intent papers sometime in the next week.

Alstork averaged 21 points per game last season for Ohio Division II No. 1 Thurgood Marshall. He claimed 23 scholarship offers, but the Cardinals surged into the lead for his services last Friday after his official visit. He chose Ball State over Drake and UNC-Greensboro among other mid-majors.

Alstork marks the first commit for Whitford, but the senior credited associate head coach Brett Nelson for convincing him to commit to Ball State.
