Coach Frank Introduces 6’2 Junior Marcell Haskett

Player: 6’2 Marcell Haskett
Class: 2015
Twitter: @M_cell2
HS:    Kecoughtan High School (Hampton VA)
Claimed Recruiting:
Hampton University and Mount St. Mary’s
AAU: Team Loaded 757

 What they’re saying:
Those that watched Haskett on the 15-Under circuit during AAU began to whisper that he has the potential to be the next great Peninsula District point guard and the evidence of that coming to fruition is starting to show. Last year as a freshman, he shared the starting point guard duties alongside Nate Motley. Haskett brings noticeable quickness to the table that makes him difficult for defenders to keep him in front of them, plus causes havoc defensively. His harassing, on-ball defense will make him a major contributor, regardless of what he does on the offensive end of the floor. – 2012 Best of 757 Showcase Evaluations

A Chris Paul, Kyrie Irving type. – Nike SPARQ Training

Marcell Haskett, a 2015 6’1” 160lbs player out of Kecoughtan High School (VA), is a fast player that is strong off the dribble. Quick in transition and has a nice crossover. One college coach wanted to work on his finishing while another said he is tough, a playmaker and finishes well. Good release, rounded player, is fast and has good body control – Fall Raleigh Scouts Focus Camp

Coach Frank says:   Marcell dribbles as if the ball is on a string!  Has tight, quick handles and ability to use either hand on the drive.  A strong-bodied guard who can absorb contact and is becoming a very solid finisher thanks in large part to his ability to hang in the air take contact and get his shot off.  Is also very good at using the drop off pass.  Has an excellent mid range jumper and can go from very quick to stopping on a dime with his jump stop, his ability to stop and start and change speeds is uncanny and he has great body control and balance.  With Iverson-like explosiveness and the ability to stop and go, Marcell uses an assortment of dribble moves and keeps his eyes up the floor, possesses excellent court vision and ability to deliver the right passes even in traffic.  Always attacking, uses a strong crossover and inside-out dribble to keep defenders off balance.  Marcell can fill it up from the perimeter as evidenced by a 30 point game earlier this year and a three game stretch in which he scored 90 points for Kecoughtan High School and shot a high percentage from the perimeter to include three point range, and those numbers from a high assist point guard!  Defensively he is an opposing guards nightmare.  Quick active feet, great lateral mobility, a strong upper body and busy hands, a harassing and relentless on ball defender.  Marcell is well-rounded player with cat like quickness, high basketball IQ and court awareness.
