Hofstra lands star Queens recruit Malik Nichols
Thursday, 13 February 2014
ImageNew York Post: Hofstra’s on-court slump hasn’t extended into recruiting.

The Pride have excelled there since Joe Mihalich came to Long Island from Niagara in the offseason.

That continued last week when Queens product and junior college standout Malik Nichols picked the CAA program, committing to Hofstra four years after he initially pledged there.

The versatile 6-foot-6 forward committed to Hofstra at the start of his senior year, back in 2010, yet he didn’t qualify out of Boys & Girls after leading the Kangaroos to a second straight PSAL Class AA crown. Rather than attend junior college, he wound up at prep school Bridgton Academy in Maine, a year of development that just delayed the inevitable.

Nichols, who went from Bridgton to South Plains College in Levelland, Texas, committed to Hofstra last week, picking the Pride and its new staff over Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Lafayette, Fordham and TCU. South Plains assistant coach Hank Plona said Hofstra made Nichols a clear priority, sending each member of its staff to the junior college in West Texas.

Report on Class of 2014 G Grant Sinn

courtesy of journalgazette.net (Ft.Wayne,IN):

– One day, not too long ago, Grant Sinn dreamed of playing for Duke, being the top pick in the NBA draft and not only getting into the NBA finals but being named the MVP.

That was seven or eight years in the past, but that doesn’t mean the Canterbury senior doesn’t still have dreams and aspirations. These days, they are just tailored to his 6-foot-1, sharp-shooting frame.

“I had all that stuff written down,” Sinn said of the daydreams of a 10-year-old gym rat. “It’s good to set goals, but once you get to high school, you have to know the limitations of what you are able to do.

“When you see the men playing on television and you notice the height difference and the foot speed and the agility, that’s when you take it in as well, because you know your limitations and abilities. You see most of the players playing ACC basketball have the ability to go pro, and you know you don’t have it – that’s kind of an eye-opener.”

Coach Frank Introduces 6’2 Junior Marcell Haskett

Player: 6’2 Marcell Haskett
Class: 2015
Twitter: @M_cell2
HS:    Kecoughtan High School (Hampton VA)
Claimed Recruiting:
Hampton University and Mount St. Mary’s
AAU: Team Loaded 757

 What they’re saying:
Those that watched Haskett on the 15-Under circuit during AAU began to whisper that he has the potential to be the next great Peninsula District point guard and the evidence of that coming to fruition is starting to show. Last year as a freshman, he shared the starting point guard duties alongside Nate Motley. Haskett brings noticeable quickness to the table that makes him difficult for defenders to keep him in front of them, plus causes havoc defensively. His harassing, on-ball defense will make him a major contributor, regardless of what he does on the offensive end of the floor. – 2012 Best of 757 Showcase Evaluations
