California big man now prepping in North Carolina

Last week we also caught up with Jamaree Strickland, this time via email, who is the newest addition to the Hunting Park Warriors.

Jamaree is a 6-9 interior player who came from McClymonds High School in Oakland, California but has now come out east to play with the Hunting Park Warriors this summer and do a post-graduate year at Queen City Prep in Charlotte, North Carolina.

While he has already drawn interest from a number of schools including North Texas, Cal State Northridge, Missouri State, Cal State Bakersfield, San Jose State and San Francisco, his move east can only help him get more exposure.

Here is what Jamaree had to say about why he decided to fly across country to prep in North Carolina.

“The competition and schedule is reason why I picked prep school in North Carolina.  I heard it's better competition at prep basketball in the east.”

Jamaree already holds an offer and that is from San Jose State, which is also the only school he has been on an unofficial visit to.

Here is what Jamaree said he is looking for in a potential school.

I'm looking for a college that gets the ball to the big man, fast paced offense, with a strict and experienced coach.

Since we had yet to see Jamaree play a game we wanted to get his self assessment of his game.  He listed his strengths as his rebounding, shot blocking and his post moves.  What he felt he needed to work on the most was his lateral quickness in order to better defend wing players and the perimeter.

With his move to Queen City Prep and playing with the Hunting Park Warriors, Jamaree should definitely get a whole different group of schools looking at him.  His size alone should intrigue teams, but if he plays well he should see his interest increase dramatically.
