Masiello hauls in three key recruits for Jaspers program
Wednesday, 28 November 2012
ImageNY Daily News: When Manhattan College hired former Louisville assistant coach Steve Masiello as its head coach a year and a half ago, it was based on his pedigree as a recruiter as well as his up-tempo style of play. That style of play translated into 20-plus wins last season, his first in Riverdale, and now with his second recruiting class he may have one a long way towards transforming the Jaspers into a consistent force in the MAAC.

Wednesday the Jaspers received signed National Letters of Intent from much sought-after 6-5 wing Chris Thomas, 6-10 center Carlton Allen and 6-0 guard Tyler Wilson out of Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx. It as a quality haul for the Jaspers second-year coach.

"This class fills all our needs," Masiello said. "We have a big-time scoring wing (Thomas) to replace (senior) George (Beamon), a cerebral point guard (Wilson) to 'stir the drink' as they say and a big body inside to add great depth to our front line. Overall we are really excited about the class."

Masiello and the Jaspers may be the most excited about Thomas, the 6-5 scoring machine from Denver. He is regarded as one of the nation's elite scorers and is considered a high-major talent. This season Thomas is playing at Chipola College in Florida, the nation's fourth-ranked team among junior colleges.
